Spencer Alexander Walcott Sr. was born August 8, 1954 at 170th Street of Boston Road in the Bronx, New York to the late Shirley Walcott. He was raised in the Bronx and Brooklyn, New York.
He attended Manhattan High School located on 54th Street and 8th Avenue. In 1972 he attended the Police Academy. Upon graduation from the Academy he continued working with them until 1976. He then worked for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority until 1990. He also worked at Sears and Roebuck as a mechanic.
In 1995 he drove a friend to Savannah, GA and decided to stay. In Savannah he was known as S.A. He became a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t tear down, take apart or fix. He became a member of the Tremont Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the Usher Board. He was a charming man, with a bright and genuine smile to match his genuine love of people. He enjoyed being an usher and church members looked forward to interacting with him.
His favorite past times were working on cars, collecting memorabilia, playing basketball, riding his bike and playing paddle and handball. He wasn’t bad at chess either. He loved to play. He carried his own personal chess board and pieces.
Spencer had four children, Spencer Q. Walcott Jr.; Jermaine S. Champaine; Jewel Walcott of New York; and Rosalin A. Walcott of Chicago, IL.
Spencer had four stepchildren, Michelle L. Sall of Chicago, IL ; Eugene F. Epps of Bronx, NY; Kashima Epps of GA; and Latisha S. Fitzgerald of Tulsa, OK whom he helped raise with their mother Patricia Powell of New York, New York. Patricia was one of his best friends.
He also has three living siblings, Saundra Page of Lawnside, NJ; Steven Walcott of Clovis, CA; and Geraldine Gordon of Atlanta, GA.
He also kept in touch with his lifetime friend no matter where he was, Sheldon Polite of New York, New York.
He has a host of nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, cousins and friends whom he loved dearly. All special to him and each person uniquely adored.
S.A. Walcott of Savannah, GA was called home on September 2, 2017 due to complications following/of cancer. He was 63.
A memorial service and celebration of life will take place in New York metropolitan area; specifics to be determined. All will be welcomed to attend. Updates are forthcoming.
