Lynn Marie Rea Simmons

June 22, 2014 - 6 Condolences

Lynn Marie Simmons, age 48, of Pooler, Georgia passed away on Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 at her home.

A native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, she was the daughter of Edward Rea and JoAnn Fitzpatrick. Lynn loved her family and friends, University of Michigan football, and playing golf on Sundays (her form of church.)

Survivors include her husband, James P. Simmons, Jr. of Pooler; a son, Joseph Russo (Sara) of Macomb, Michigan; two brothers, Edward Rea (Jennifer) and Jeff Fitzpatrick, both of Warren, Michigan; her sister, Debrah Jackson (Bob) of Chesterfield, Michigan; niece & nephew, Samantha and Michael Rea of Warren, Michigan, and nieces Stevie of Chesterfield, Michigan & Mackenzie Jackson of Flint, Michigan.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Families First Funeral Care with Funeral Services to follow at 5:00 PM.

Additional services will be held on Tuesday, July 1st at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons Funeral Home in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Visitation from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with Services to follow at 7:00 PM.

Ming-Yu Hsu

June 21, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Ming-Yu Hsu, age 88, of Wilmington Island, passed away June 21st, 2014 at his home.

Ming moved from Galesburg, Illinois to Savannah, Georgia in 1980. He worked for Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung for over 25 years, building many structures in Savannah and South Carolina, among which are Savannah High School and the marina in Hilton Head.

He originated in China and went to Taiwan during the Mao Communist takeover. From Taiwan he was dispatched to Libya for a government sanctioned international farm irrigation project. After Muammar Gaddafi took over Libya, he moved to Germany and for two years worked for an Engineering firm his close German friend had procured for him. Then in 1974 he went to Galesburg, Illinois and found a company that helped get his green card to stay in this country. To get away from the snowy weather in Illinois he found a position in Savannah and moved here in 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 60 plus years and 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 21st, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Bonaventure Funeral Home.

John B. Anderson, Jr.

June 17, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

John B. “Johnny” Anderson Jr. passed in the afternoon of June 17, 2014 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Johnny was preceded in death by parents John Anderson Sr. and Bernice Anderson along with brother Larry Anderson. He is survived by wife of 49 years Vivian Cromartie-Anderson. Johnny fathered 5 children: Brian Anderson (Marie Pavliscsak-Anderson), Steve Anderson, Laurie Anderson, Julie Anderson-Paul (Kevin Paul), and Angie Anderson-Rogers (Mike Rogers). John was also a beloved grandfather of 4 grandchildren: Anna Anderson-Reabold (David Reabold), Emily Anderson, Allison Anderson, and Jackson Paul. He also leaves behind sister Rudell Lawrence (Alex Lawrence).

John served in the US Navy on-board USS Semmes ddg 18 asc., worked hard for CSX for 32 years and as a commercial shrimper for 45 years. Johnny had a love for sports; he coached football, baseball, and basketball for 22 years. Above all; he loved his country, god and family.

Florence Evelyn “Flo” Downey Sulsona

June 14, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Florence (Flo) Downey Sulsona of Savannah passed away on Saturday June 14th, 2014.

Born in New York, New York on April 23, 1920 to William & Anna Downey, she was raised by her grandmother Annie Cronin and had 7 siblings. She worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for Veterans Hospital in New York, was a long time resident of Savannah and married Ely D. Sulsona on August 2nd, 1941.

Flo was an avid clogger with several groups in Savannah. Music and singing were her passions. She always lit up the room, and lived by the motto "attitude is everything." She was a most kind and giving person.

Preceded in death by her mother, father, grandmother, husband Ely Sulsona, her son Danny Sulsona, and her granddaughter, Jennifer Butrymowicz, and is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Raymond) Adams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina & Elaine Butrymowicz of Savannah; grandchildren, Lisa Tygart, John Gibbs, Laurie Boone, and Linda Spencer; great-grandchildren, Justin Tygart, Anna Gibbs, Anthony Tygart, Patrick Tygart, Lyndsey Boone, Luke Boone, Charlotte Spencer, and Savannah Spencer; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 17th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bonaventure Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 18th, at 1:00 pm in St. James Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Clifford “Buddy” Worthington Corns, Jr.

June 11, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

A man of faith, a friend, a father, a husband, a teacher, a musician, a lover of all people that crossed his path. Buddy was many things and he will always be remembered. He made a difference in people’s lives without thinking twice. He probably didn’t realize that great effect that he had on the people around him. He was willing to learn and spread that knowledge to others. He learned to tinker with cars from his father, and passed that along by helping others in need with their problems. He learned to play a multitude of instruments, and in turn spread music and joy in everyone’s life he touched. Even if it sounded bad, he offered words of encouragement and tips to improve upon. His family, friends, and faith in the Lord has served him well in this life. His memory will live on in every song we hear, every flower we see, and every fellow brother or sister that needs a little help from another. We are all blessed to have had him in our lives and he will surely be missed. Now, he is in heaven fishing and having a much needed jam session with those that have also loved him in this life. You are in our thoughts and may you rest in peace, Buddy. We will miss you.

The visitation for Buddy will be at Families First Funeral Care at 1328 Dean Forest Road from 3pm-5pm on Sunday the 15th of June, 2014. The funeral and service will be graveside at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens (right next door to Bonaventure Cemetery) at 10 am on Monday morning the 16th of June, 2014.
