Fred Jackson Branch, Jr.

Fred Jackson Branch, Jr., age 56, of Eden, died Tuesday, December 30th, 2014,

Fred was a self-taught carpenter and his perfection showed in every detail. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a kind, gentle, loving person that will be missed by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his mother, Lois B. Bryant and step-father, Matthew N. Bryant; sister and brothers, Saundra Dunn (Paul), Tommy Branch, Jeff Branch, and Ellis Branch; three children, Fred Jackson Branch, III, Brandi B. Tomlinson, & Christopher Branch; many aunts and uncles & several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Monday, January 5th, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Families First Funeral Care. Funeral Services: Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park-West.

Robert Cooper Cowart, Jr.

December 29, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Robert Cowart Jr., age 83, of Springfield, passed away Monday, December 29th, 2014 at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

A native of Collins, he was the son of Robert Cowart and Ruby Strozier Cowart. Robert was a veteran of the Air Force and followed his service in the Korean War by a Customer Service Representative at Cardinal Health for 37 years.

Preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Frank Cowart and daughter, Tammy Cowart; survivors include wife, Jemima Cowart of Springfield; son, Jeff Cowart (Lisa) of Springfield; grandson, Jonathan Cowart (Natalie) of Statesboro; granddaughter, Jessica Cowart of Forsyth; great-granddaughter: Nia Cowart; and sister, Virginia DeMuche (Bill), of Savannah.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks for remembrances to be made in Roberts honor to Gentiva Hospice and Westview Nursing Home.

Services will be held privately as a family at a later date.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Hopkins Snider

December 22, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever- Psalms 23:6

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Hopkins-Snider was the 2^nd child born to the late Ethel Lee Watts-Hopkins and the late John C. Hopkins in Savannah, Georgia. She lived and worked in Savannah her entire life. She was educated in the Chatham County Public School System. Johnnie Mae was married at an early age to Edward Snider of Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Johnnie Mae gave her life to Christ at an early age. Church memberships then included Second Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church (Hitch Village) and Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. She was a member of First Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at the time of her passing.

Our beloved was preceded in death by her father, John C. Hopkins, mother Ethel Lee Hopkins, a brother Ronnie Hopkins, Sr., and a sister Mary Jane Hopkins.

She was affectionately known for cooking big pots of food and sharing with all who came through her door, nursing and sitting for the Dunn, Platt, and Williams’s families, and unconditionally loving her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated friend to all who had the privilege of calling her one.

On December 22, 2014, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Snider transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest, peacefully answering the Master’s call, surrounded by family.

Left to treasure her memories are her loving children: Shon (Joyce) Snider, Cheryl Snider, Edward (Elaine) Snider, April Snider, Misha Snider, all of Savannah, GA. Jennifer Snider, Dell Snider, Valerie Snider, and Natasha Snider, all of Hilton Head S.C.; a sister, Gloria (Bobby) McCord of Decatur, GA; 16 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren; 5 beloved nephews (Keith, Reginald, Antonio, Ronnie, Jr.) of Savannah, GA and Donald Watts of Decatur, GA; a God-daughter Brandi Pinckney of McDonough, GA; Special cousins (Emma Watts Pringle and Patricia Watts Levant). Special friends (Nadine Goodwin, Betty Wimberly, Juanita Brown, Evelyn Williams, Terri Brown, and Gerald Mitchell); and a host of dear friends and family.

Phillip Charles Buchheit

Phillip Charles Buchheit

Phillip Buchheit peacefully passed away on December 22, 2014 at age 90, surrounded by his family and loved ones. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care that the staff of Abercorn Rehab provided for our dear father.

Phillip was born on January 4, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia . He was the fifth child out of seven born to Fredrick Louis and Mary Best Buchheit.

Phillip was a welder and retired from the Savannah Shipyard. He was a World War II veteran who served in India. Aside from his duties as a welder and engineer, he took pride in waking the troops each morning, lunch and dinner with his exceptional musical skill of playing the bugle.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Lucy K Buchheit. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mozelle B Miller, Elizabeth B Alonso, Frederica B Buck, Susan B Hennessey and his brother Frank A Buchheit.

He is survived by his daughters, Annette B Clay, Debra B Wilson and a sister Teresa B Ryan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Joshua Flowers, Matthew, Breanne and Jeremy Wilson. Additionally he is survived by a sister in law, Barbara W Buchheit and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Families First Funeral Care Chapel located at 1328 Dean Forest Road 5 – 7 pm with the rosary service at 6 pm on Monday, December 29. The Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, December 30 at Sacred Heart Church at 11 am. Interment will be at Laurel Grove Cemetery following the mass.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Savannah or Sacred Heart Church.

Kenneth W. Calloway, Sr.

December 21, 2014 - 2 Condolences

Kenneth W. “Kenny” Calloway, Sr., 52, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He was born on June 28, 1962 in Savannah, Georgia to Alvenia Calloway and the late Eugene “Gene” Calloway. An alumnus of Savannah High School, class of 1980, and a Savannah State University Tiger, he worked as a machine operator at Tronox, Inc. for 20 years and as a forklift operator at Imperial Sugar Company for two years. He was a caring, devoted father and husband, and a close friend to many.

He will forever be loved and remembered by the love of his life of 21 years, Angela, his son, Kenneth Calloway, Jr., his brother, Eugene (Patricia) Calloway, Jr., his sister, Tammy (Elijah) Hunter, two step-children, Antonio (Molly) Lee and Tarsha (Aaron) Taylor, his mother-in-law, Shirley Clarke, his brother-in-law, Lonney Clarke, his step-mother, Evelyn (Eugene) Calloway, his step-sisters, Kimberly (Jeffery) Ling, Wanda (Eric) Draughn, and Cheryl Fleming, his step-brothers, James Lucas and Hoyt “Boo” (Alicia) Fleming, a step-grandson, nieces, nephews , aunts, uncles, cousins from California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas, and a host of friends and colleagues.

Services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 624 Waters Avenue, Savannah, Georgia.
