Frederick Alan Free

June 15, 2015 - Leave a Condolence

Mr. Frederick Alan Free of Pembroke, GA passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the age of 62.

Mr. Free was born on February 2, 1953 to the late Joseph Free Sr. and Louise Akers Free in Altoona, PA. He grew up the second of five children and joined the Army shortly after his 17^th birthday serving two tours in Vietnam. Fred served his country with valor earning many awards including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Air Medal.

Mr. Free is survived by his brother Joseph Free Jr. and his sisters Linda Hileman and Deborah Shelow. He was preceded in death by his sister Rebecca Billard.

Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. The family is grateful for all condolences, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Sadie L. Beaver

June 13, 2015 - Leave a Condolence

Ms Sadie Beaver, a resident of Richmond Hill and a member of Daniel Baptist Church went to be with her Savior Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Candler Hospital.

She was born 1937 in Jacksonville, FL and eventually moved to Savannah where she lived and raised her family.

Sadie began her career at Saint Joseph’s hospital where she worked for over forty years. She started as a nurse’s aide and decided to go back to school to get her high school diploma, then to Savannah Vocational Tech where she received her Certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Later on she left Saint Joseph and went to work at the Chatham County Sheriff’s department until retiring in 2002.

In her spare time, Sadie enjoyed the outdoor life, she loved to fish, camp, sightsee, etc. She also loved long walks on the beach collecting sharks teeth, cross stitching, and watching the Braves.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Louise Flinn and her two brothers Gilbert Jr. and Robert Flinn. Sadie was survived by her four children: Kathleen (Scott) Piersol, Charles Jr. (Lorraine) Beaver, Susan (Jimmy IV) Henderson, Perry (Sandra) Beaver, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Daniel Baptist Church (580 Daniel Siding Loop Road, Richmond Hill), Saturday June 20, 2015 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Lions Light House for the Blind, 5582 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341 or the Bryan County Senior Citizens Center.

Lorraine M. Manuel

June 10, 2015 - 2 Condolences

Our beautiful daughter, Lorraine was born to us her Parents, Ricardo R. & Angela Lorraine (Roberson) Manuel, in Savannah, Georgia on November 20^th, 1987.

Lorraine began her life traveling with the family as her Father served in the U.S. Army. Lorraine’s education began as a young child in Daleville, Alabama; Nurnberg, Germany and Columbus, Ohio. Lorraine later attended Isle of Hope Elementary School, Savannah, Georgia and during that time she published a book, while in the 3^rd Grade, entitled, "Alisha and Froggie" which is now held in the Library of Congress. The book symbolizes how a little girl, Alisha, rescued a frog and took him to school, to stay cool in her lunch box. Lorraine later attended Shuman Middle School, Savannah, Georgia, where she learned to play the flute. In 2006, Lorraine graduated from Savannah Arts Academy where she studied Music Theory. Lorraine attended Savannah State University until 2011.

Lorraine was called by many names such as; Precious, Special, Rachael, Superstar as known by the staff at Doubletree and Hilton Garden Inn Properties, Marissa mainly by her Grandmother Mary T. Roberson but her most notable name was "Cuppie" which was given to her by her Father Ricardo R. Manuel at birth.

Lorraine joined the fellowship of Christ at First African Baptist Church of East Savannah at eight years old under the leadership of Pastor Thomas E. Williams and as a youth she sang in the choir, attended Sunday School, Prayer Meeting and Bible Study. In April 2000, Lorraine went with her Parents to Second Ebenezer, under the Leadership of Pastor Harold Baker who retired and her Father became the Pastor in 2003. At Ebenezer Lorraine as a youth sang in the choir, attended Sunday School, Prayer Meeting and Bible Study. Lorraine also would attend services at Kingdom Life Christian Fellowship where her Uncle Charles P. Roberson, Sr. is the Pastor. Lorraine selected to be an organ donor which the process helped to save more than sixty persons as of June 12^th, 2015.

In the cherishing of her memory, she waits for her 3 1/2 year old son, Hraji Azaiah Franklin whom she loved dearly; her Father Ricardo Rolando Manuel; Mother Angela Lorraine (Roberson) Manuel, all of Savannah; Brother, Ricardo E’ron Manuel of Tulsa, Ok; One neice Malorie Grace Manuel of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Grandmother Mary T. Roberson, Savannah, Georgia; Twenty One Cousins who she considered to be her Sisters and Brothers; A special group of Uncles and Aunts, a Godmother Deitra Curtis Adams, Atlanta, Georgia and a grand circle of friends, coworkers, cousins, church members, neighbors, classmates and facebook/social media associates.

Services will be held Friday June 19 from 6pm to 8pm, at Bonaventure Funeral home (viewing) and Lorraine’s Homegoing Service will be Saturday June 20^th at 11:00am from Temple of Glory Community Church, Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Williams, Pastor, Officiating. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park-West.

Sandra Godfrey Smith

June 9, 2015 - 13 Condolences

Sandra Godfrey Smith, age 67, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Tuesday June 9^th following a long illness.

Born November 23, 1947 on Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. She was the daughter of retired Army/Air Force Warrant Officer William C. Godfrey Sr. and Jacqueline Godfrey Pounder. Sandy graduated from Savannah High School and went on to attend Armstrong State College. She received a medical assistant degree from South College in Savannah.

Sandy gave several years to the Pink Lady Volunteers of Candler hospital and attended Wesley Oak Methodist Church when her health allowed.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother, William C. Godfrey Jr. and late husband Capers F. Smith Jr. Sandy is survived by companion John Robert Whittemore ; daughter Candice Segall Miller and her husband Fredd, daughter Shelley Segall Davis and her husband Gary; 5 grandchildren Ayla and Julian Miller, Quinn, Walker, and Clay Davis; and great aunt Jimmie Blair; many cousins and close friends.

Services will be held Tuesday June 16^th at 2:00 pm at Families First Funeral Care. A small reception will follow.

Christopher Madison Cowart

June 6, 2015 - Leave a Condolence

Christopher Madison Cowart, age 60, of Savannah passed away Saturday, June 6th, 2015 at Hospice Savannah.

Born September 25th, 1954 in Savannah, he was the son of Ulie L. Cowart, Sr. and Mabel Monroe Cowart. A U.S. Army veteran and a member of Calvary Baptist Temple in Savannah, he was a very talented carpenter/cabinet maker who worked for Cowart Cabinets in Augusta for 25 years. He loved fishing, but his greatest love was for his children and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ulie L. Cowart, Jr., Christopher is survived by 2 daughters, Christy Ross (Christian) & Bethany Cowart Ransom; his grandchildren, Savannah Rackliffe, Noah Ross & Madiyn Ross; 2 sisters, Linda Zadach (Ervin Browder) & Suzanne Cowart-Yaughn (Lehman); a brother, William C. Cowart and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 9th from 2:00 to 2:30 P.M. in the Wilder Chapel of Calvary Baptist Temple with Memorial Services to follow at 2:30 P.M., The Reverend Kenny Grant and Mr. Larry Yaughn officiating. Memorial Donations may be made to Hospice Savannah or the Calvary Childrens’ Ministry.
