Print This Obituary & CondolencesSarah Butler Green, age 80, of Savannah, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center.
Sarah Green was born on December 8, 1939, in Savannah, Georgia, to her parents, Jeremiah and Alice Hayward Butler. The baby of 10 children, Sarah was an excellent student. She graduated from
Tompkins High School in 1958. On May 21, 1960, she united in marriage to Levi Green, a union of devotion for 29 years. To this union, 6 sons and 3 daughters were born.
Sarah dedicated her life to Jehovah God and symbolized it by water baptism at the age of 20,
on November 1, 1959. For over 60 years she remained a faithful and devoted servant of Jehovah until she fell asleep in death on December 30, 2019. She was an avid Bible student who loved to
speak of God’s promises to all who listened. She is well known, by her relatives and friends, for her regular letter writing. Her letters left many of us thinking deeply, feeling encouraged, motivated, and spiritually upbuilt. Sarah, also known as ‘Momma’, ‘Grandma’, and ‘Sister Green’, will be truly missed. We often think of her beautiful smile, her laughter, her dry humor, her unexpected jokes, her life-
sustaining cooking, her amazing strength, and her determination.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Alice Hayward Butler; her husband, Levi Green; her brothers, Jerry, Lester, Julius, Charlie; her sisters, Hollis and Alice; her daughter, Ada Janise; her granddaughter, Delicia Janiece; and her grandson, Semaj O’shea.
Sarah was a devoted mother, sister, & friend. She leaves to cherish her memories: her sisters, Ora B. Gordon, Margaret Brown, and Dorothy Isaac; her 8 beautiful children, Marion, Elijah, and daughter-in-love Roslyn, Susan, Shawn, and daughter-in-love Christina, Johnathan and daughter-in-love Inez, Christopher and daughter-in-love Demetrius, Delicia, and David; her amazing 24 grandchildren, La’Teka and grandson-in-love Jesse McLemore, Ebony, Damion, Renee, and grandson-in-love Steven Lewis, Michael, Teresa, Marcus, Shawniece, Deshaylah, and grandson-in-love Malik Mitchell, Shawn, Joquee, Christopher Jordan and granddaughter-in-love Gigi, Alexis, Caila, Johnathan, and granddaughter-in-love Bridgett, Christopher Michael, Jayson, Samayah, Naya, Naria, Nathan, Gavin, & Bo; her cherished 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends!
