Dawn Iris Kaley (June 9, 1947 – April 23, 2021)

Dawn Iris Kaley (nee Warmund) was born to Jack Shlomo Warmund and Evelyn Mary Fischer in Queens, New York. It was 1947, the sound barrier was broken and little did the world know that Dawn’s life’s work would accumulate to help girls and young women break barriers as leaders.

Dawn began her life in Jamaica Estates, New York and graduated from Jamaica High School before attending Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art on a full scholarship.  Harnessing her creativity was a skill she would draw upon throughout her life.

Dawn married Lawrence Kaley in 1971. Although they divorced her joy was her son and daughter-in-law, Ian and Viva whom she loved to live through vicariously.

Dawn had a number of jobs but the ones that were spoken of most often were her positions with Holson, C.R. Gibson, and The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. Through each role Dawn continued to create and appreciate paintings and drawings and always made it a priority to encourage the creativity of young women in her life.

Dawn was active with The Learning Center within Senior Citizens Inc of Savannah, The League of Woman’s Voters, Savannah Jewish Federation, and The Congregation Mickve Israel. One of her favorite activities to participate in was the Shalom Y’all Jewish Food Festival sharing food and memories with friends and community.

Dawn faced a short battle with kidney cancer and embraced her remaining days with dignity and peacefulness. Her determination to remain positive was inspiring to all who knew her.  Dawn was a loving, vibrant, determined woman whose steady friendship and love, (and often legendary 3-hour phone calls) will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Dawn is survived by her son Ian and his wife Viva of New York, NY. Dawn leaves her siblings, Bonnie Teboul (Jacque decd.) of Israel and Joel Warmund of Columbus, Ohio, her nieces/nephews P’nina Ben-Gal (Yonaton), Yona Shemesh (Shachar), Alisa (Josh) Kermisch, Josh (Danielle) Warmund, and their children Or, Eyal, Ofir, Roie, Lihi, Ido, Noah, Isabelle, and Brooklyn. Dawn also considered her many friends to be family.

The family wishes to thank Buckingham South and Hospice Savannah for their wonderful end-of-life care. Dawn described the comfort she was given as a “golden cloud” following overhead. Dawn is now our golden cloud.

Charles “Larry” Smith, age 80, died on Friday, April 23,2021.  Larry was born March 18,1941 in Savannah, Ga. to the late Pearlie Smith and Mattie “Ruth” Smith.

Larry was a loving husband, brother, father, and granddaddy.  He served in the National Guards. He enjoyed being outdoors; hunting, fishing, and had a great passion and ability for wood working.  He was a man of few words, but a sucker for sweets.  The true definition of an honest man to strangers, friends, and family.

Larry was preceded in death by his two brothers, Kermit and Glenn Smith.

Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Julia and James Wilcox: and Dannielle and Michael Douberley; 4 grandchildren, Kimberley Dasher, Colt Christian, Ashley Douberley, and Tabatha (Ryan) Renfroe; and 7 great -grandkids, Timmy Dasher III, Greyson Dasher, Brodey Knight, Aulbrey Knight, Harley Douberley, Carter Renfroe, and Piper Renfroe and a sister, Norma Beasley.

The family has arranged a Memorial Service Thursday April 29, 2021 at 6:00 pm at Central Baptist Church, 4010 Old Louisville Rd., Garden City, Ga. 31408
