Deaconess Dorothy Verdell Moran was born on September 10, 1927 to the late William “Mack” Graham and Mamie Shigg-Graham, who preceded her in death. She departed this life Wednesday, May 12, 2021. She was 93 years old.
Deaconess Moran, in her early years, became a Christian and was a member of Mount Zion AME (African Methodist Episcopal) Church in Garnett, South Carolina, probably in the early 1940s. She attended school, but eventually had to drop out in the 9th grade to help her family financially. She was full of love and would do anything to help out anybody who needed the help.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Abraham Moran, Sr. and moved to Savannah, Georgia, where she became a member of Saint John’s Church. She eventually became a Deaconess and was an active and faithful member in the church. During this precious union seven children were born of which one preceded her in death (Aaron). Also, she had one sister who preceded her in death (Ruth McQueen) and one half-brother who preceded her in death (Johnny Graham).
Deaconess Moran leaves the following loved ones: three sons, Abraham (Lillie) Moran, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida, Howard “Shine” Moran of Atlanta, Georgia and Eli D. Moran of Savannah, Georgia; three daughters, Marilyn Moran of Savannah, Georgia, Cyrena (Curtis) I. Gibson of Stockbridge, Georgia and Melissa Moran of Atlanta, Georgia.
Deaconess Moran also leaves the following to cherish her memories: one half-brother, William Graham, Jr. and one half-sister, Barbara Jean Graham; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
