Ann Elizabeth Soutar (Hawkinson) passed away peacefully in her home in Savannah, GA on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on August 4, 1950, in Galesburg, IL, she was the daughter of the late James “Jim” Frederick Hawkinson and Mary Beverly “Bev” Hawkinson (Walton). She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William “Bill” Hawkinson, and former spouse, Robert “Bob” Cochrane. Ann grew up in Galesburg, IL. Post-secondary education included North Park College and the University of Illinois, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
Her younger years were fondly spent with friends and family, and attending school and church. She had numerous hobbies throughout her life such as reading, singing in choirs, bowling, playing the piano, and karaoke. She was especially known for her artistic talent such as colored pencil portrait work.
Shortly after college, Ann met and fell in love with Bob. They spent several years traveling & relocating before they settled back in Illinois to raise a family. Ann was dedicated to raising her children and worked in a variety of positions, doing what was needed to help provide for her family.
Later in life, she found love again with Dary Soutar. They were married for the last 16 years of their 26 year partnership. Together, they enjoyed time with friends, outings with each other, and visiting with family at any chance they had. Ann worked as a machinist for many years at a manufacturing plant in Illinois, and then later they moved to Knoxville, TN for retirement. She enjoyed working part time as a parts driver for an auto shop. Then relaxing, cooking and being “retired” became her priority. She adored time with her husband and cat in their home with the perfect front porch. Life dramatically changed after just three years in Knoxville, and her remaining years were spent near her daughter, in Savannah, GA.
Ann will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor (she was often called a “hoot!”), faith in God, love of her family and friends, compassion and ability to see the best in people, and her various talents.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dary; her children, Kimberly Ghilarducci, Matthew “Mac” Cochrane (Portia), and Laura Mauch (Ben), and her six cherished grandchildren.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held in Savannah. Arrangements are forthcoming. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation. Flowers are also welcome at the service.
