Betty Driggers Newell, fondly known as “Betty Sue,” passed from this life May 5, 2025. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, March 9, 1960 to Martha and Clarence Driggers. She was the eldest of four children. She attended various grade schools in the downtown area, later to also attend Savannah High School. She was known to be a comic, witty, and with long blonde hair and an infectious attitude that would make anyone laugh. She epitomized the 1970s halter top and blue jean bell bottoms. Like wise, she had a fiery tempered spirit that could lash out when angered. She loved music, dancing and animals. Especially her fur babies of later years and had an affinity for all creatures great and small. She was a stern mother to her son, Scott McCallar, whom as a boy loved to bring home every turtle he could round up . She was employed for many years as a Sales Representative at Old Savannah Tours, a job she loved. Alas, she had a heart of gold and would give freely of herself to help someone.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Martha and Clarence Driggers; a brother, Clarence Michael Driggers, and her only son, Scott Matthew McCallar. Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Newell, a brother, Bruce Allen Driggers, a sister, Margaret Louise Edwards, two nephews, Alex Driggers and Tyler Linton, and a grandchild, Scotty Matthew McCallar. The family suggests a donation to any charitable cause of choice. Funeral Arrangements are private.
