SAVANNAH – Betty Lucille Snider Stallings, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 15, 2016 surrounded by her family and loyal friends. A lifelong Savannah resident, Betty Lou gracefully surrendered after a long illness leaving a legacy of accomplishments in both her professional and private life.

Until his death in 1991, Betty was a loving wife to her husband of 44 years, George Alvin Stallings, Sr.
A mother of two, Betty embraced and nurtured many more children and adults by welcoming them into her home filled with love and acceptance for people and for animals.

Betty was a member of New Covenant Church UMC, formerly Epworth United Methodist Church, from nursery school to her passing. Her powerful mezzo-soprano voice graced countless weddings, funerals, and church holidays as well as civic events held throughout the City. A member of the Chancel Choir, she directed the Children’s Choir with Marjorie Davis as her accompanist. As a church elder, Betty taught the Roy Morehouse Adult Sunday School class and was a valued member of a circle of dear friends that met for bible study over many years.

Starting out in a clerical position, Betty rose through the ranks of hospital administration to assume the traditionally male role of Admitting Manager at Candler General Hospital. In 1991, she retired after 25 years of service to care for her ailing husband. In addition to her professional career, she was President of the International Management Council, the Altrusa Club, as well as a member and officer of many other clubs and organizations too numerous to name.

Survivors include her son, George Alvin Stallings, Jr. of Savannah, daughter Julie (Stallings) Perry and husband William Perry of Port Wentworth, and scores of other fortunate souls who were related to Betty by love. We appreciate that our friends and family are our loving community–and will always have Betty in their hearts and memories.

We wish to extend a very special thank you to Carol Howard for her extraordinary dedication and devotion to our mother during her final days. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Embrace Hospice and Hospice Savannah for their helpful and compassionate care.

Visitation will be 1:00pm followed by funeral services at   2:00pm on September 22, 2016 in the sanctuary of New Covenant UMC.

Interment will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.

Remembrances may be given to New Covenant Church, Music Ministry, at 2201 Bull St., Savannah, GA 31401.
