On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, an angel was commissioned to carry our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, Clara Lucille Hicks home. He wiped her tears, eased her pain and whispered, “I will give you rest and peace”.
Mother Clara Lucille Hicks, daughter of the late Mr. Emmett Harris and Mrs. Lannie Chew, was born January 24, 1931, in Michigan City, Mississippi. She departed this life on January 11, 2017.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Aaron Hicks, Sr., and from this union three beautiful children were born. Clara “Shag” Hicks exemplified the Virtuous Woman in Proverbs 31. Taking care of her family and household was her full-time occupation, all the while serving the community as a certified nurse’s aide at Saint Anthony’s Hospital. Gardening, fishing, cooking, crochet, and macramé were just a few of her gifts. She often counseled her children and grandchildren with words of wisdom. Clara’s generations did rise up and call her Blessed!
Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Hicks, Sr.; brother, Clarence Harris; grandchildren, Ralphelle Crockrom, Nikia Hicks, and Anthony Hicks; son-in-law, James E. Watson, Jr.
Clara leaves to cherish her memories her beloved children, Aaron (Tina Blakely) Hicks, Jr., Jacquelyn Chandler, and Donna Watson; grandchildren, Kenneth Hill, Keith Hill, Remmell (Jacquelyn) Chandler; Tarishma Watson Williams (Harry) Hopkins, Darnell (Emma) Chandler, Duron (Starita) Chandler, Romaya Montes (Chiena) Taylor, Jacquita Hicks, Tikia Perez, Nakia Blakely-Perez, Christopher Hicks, Linell Hicks, Antonia Blakely; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; brother, William (Mary) Harris; sisters, Emerald Harris Rogers, Marsha Harris; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives who cherished her dearly.
A special thanks to Robert Mansfield for making sure that she got exactly what she wanted and Jacquelyn Chandler for being such a wonderful caregiver.
