David Wayne Fox, 73 years old, passed away peacefully in Savannah, GA on Wednesday
February 4th, 2026.

A native of Calhoun, GA, David was the son of Clarence and Cleo Fox. He spent his
professional life serving and caring for others. After obtaining a master’s degree in
Sociology, he began his career with the Federal Prison system at the Atlanta Penitentiary,
and continued as a Parole Officer in New Orleans, LA while completing his Master of
Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He followed his call to ministry from
God to Jesup, GA, as the Chief Chaplain at the Federal Correctional Institution until his
retirement in 2002. He then served as a social worker at the Georgia Baptist Children’s
Home in Baxley, GA until his final retirement in 2008.

David is preceded in death by his father, Clarence, his Mother, Cleo Fox, and his wife,
Martha Gibson Fox.

David is survived by Sheila Fox, his wife of 43 years, his three daughters, Melissa Fox Shipes
(Wesley), Adrianne Fox Sheppard (Thomas), and Rachel Fox Smith (Daniel). He is also
survived by his three grandsons, Noah and Luke Shipes, Lincoln Sheppard, and his beloved
dachshund, Teddy.

David was full of humor and shared his joyful kind spirit with his family, friends and those
he served in his career. In his later years he enjoyed connecting with his high school friends
through his weekly Friday zoom calls.

David loved his family and shared the joy of cooking and eating with others. He fondly
remembered good times with his cousin Dan Fox who he considered a brother, and times
fishing with his father. Though he faced many challenges in his life, he never let it dull his
giving spirit. He was persistent and loyal to his family and his love for his Lord, Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service will be planned to honor David in Spring of 2026 for close family and
friends.
