The man. The myth. The legend.
Donald Eugene Causey, 69, of Savannah, GA rolled his Suzuki ’73 Water Buffalo two-wheeler through the pearly gates of Heaven on September 10, 2020 after his short battle with liver cancer.
Don devoted 35+ years to his career in Respiratory Therapy and Sleep Medicine until he retired from Costrini Sleep Services. He is responsible for implementing many innovative ideas such as bringing the hyperbaric chamber to Memorial Medical Center, participating in bilirubin studies and pioneering sleep studies/medicine with both Dr. Robert DiBenedetto and Dr. Anthony Costrini in the Savannah area.
One of Don’s biggest accomplishments was being a father. His children, Erin and Wes, called their dad a superhero, rockstar even, and now as adults, still see him that way. He was always there for them through their ups and downs, showed them how you can always learn something out of even the most challenging situations, and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer. One of his famous quotes, “Never let anger determine your actions”, can still be heard if you listen closely. One of the many Don Causey-isms.
In his spare time, he loved being a grandfather to his 3 grandchildren, Konnor, Kooper, and Kross. Albert Papastein, as the boys liked to call him, is remembered as always having tootsie pops and silly jokes.
Don’s passion involved playing guitar and music. He was a member of many bands over the years in and around the Savannah area to include “The Deap Blue”, winners of the first battle of the bands in Savannah, as well as the “Twilights” and the world renowned band “Smokin’ in Public” (just to name a few).
He leaves his 2 children, 3 grandsons, brother, Jimmy, 2 sisters, Barbara and Beth, nieces, nephews and countless other family members and friends to continue his legacy. In addition to Don, we would like to commemorate the 87 empty Folgers Coffee Containers, 32 cans of Chef Boyardee, 18 bugout bags and a multitudes of other random items that would have proved helpful in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
Don has been reunited with his father, James W. Causey, mother, Sara Yeargin Causey, granddaughter, Kaylee Mae Hinely and many other family and friends who have gone before him.
He is “…Finally feelin’ free ???? Singin’ Roll me away”
A Celebration of the life of Donald “Donnie” Causey will be held at Tom Triplett Park 1335 US 80, Pooler GA 31322 on October 9th at 6pm. He asks that you stop by (and/or comment below) to re-tell the stories he can no longer tell.

What an absolutely amazing guy! Love knowing him!!! Prayers for all his family ????????????
High School!! He was a rock star!! He was a few years older than me but we were great friends!! So handsome.. so talented… so Don!!! Loved him and was able to catch up at the last SHS class of 1969 reunion!!! I will miss him so much!!!!
To the family – Don was my first true love in Jr. High at Bartlett. I remember Jimmy and Brenda and I admired his parents. If the house on Largo could talk we would all have a good laugh. Don, Jeannie, Mitch and I were together for 2 years or so and we shared my good laughs. He even taught me a note or two on the guitar but that has long since pasted. He was my resouratory therapist at Dr. Costrini’s office. I am so sorry to have lost him at such a thriving age. I am sorry I never had the chance to me his children, Erin and Wes but I saw pictures when I was at the doctors office and I got the scoop on how great they were. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and wish I could be there to celebrate his life. I will be there in spirit.
I’ve known Don since the mid 70’s when he was in my Respiratory Therapy class at Memorial. He and I later graduated in the 1st RT class at Armstrong together. He coached my son’s baseball team in the late 80’s. I’ll always remember him for being so smart, so witty and just a special friend. I would see him from time to time and he was always so nice. I know that he was so proud of his children and loved his family dearly. RIP my friend.
One or both of Don’s kids must have written this obit. It is just perfect, so Don. The whole family is in my prayers as you say good-bye to a truly wonderful and unique man. He was a blessing to all who knew him.
We played many roles in each other’s lives over the last 43 years..but the most important one was our friendship. I love and miss him deeply and feel blessed to have been called his homerette!
Don has been a friend since our middle school days at Bartlett. I will always miss his easy spirit, big smile, guitar licks, and that huge mustache. He will be missed as he was loved, greatly.
I also went to school with Don for respiratory therapy. I lived in the dorm and Don and I would listen to music into the wee hours. Very intelligent and a pleasure to talk to about any subject. Coached baseball together. Will be missed.
My sincere condolences to Don’s family. I know I will miss him. We were able to work together for many years, and I trusted him and relied on him for his knowledge and patience.
I am from Michigan, and so the first time I say him on his bike with long hair and moist ache, I yelled: “hey dude u look like Bob Seger!” He laughed,and now I hope and believe he is still laughing. God bless him and his family including Wes’ youngest
He was always so nice when I went to see Dr. Costrini for my C Pap appts. Sad to hear this!
Don is that person we will always remember. His intelligence, wit, and strong relationships touched each of us. His love for his family was his guiding principle. We were all better for him being part of our lives. My prayers are with Erin and Wes and their families and hope that the smiles he brought replaces the tears you feel now. He was one in a million!
Such a man , always a great sense of humor. Proud to call him friend. Godspeed Don. Say hello to Sammy add David for me for me. Love you man !

I have known Don for many years as a fellow bass player.He will be missed in the music world and as a family man.He is now playing with all the other musicians in God’s band of renowned musicians.

Don always was and will always be one of my favorite people. I remember when he and David threw me a surprise birthday party at their house and I had to ask for nothing. He was always quick with his wit, sometimes sarcastic wit, but endearing nevertheless. His smile and laugh would always make you feel good. He kind of made the hard times easier.
That is just they way he was. This Earth lost one of the best ones, but boy what a party we will have in Heaven. God Bless You my friend. You will always hold a special place in my heart. b
