Posted By Funeral Funeral Futurist On March 21, 2015 @ 12:00 am In Obituaries | No Comments

Dorothy  Parker, a.k.a.  Miss Dottie, Ketchum, 91, of Savannah, was born at home in Screven County, Ga., a few miles outside of Sylvania.  She went to be with the Lord, March 21, 2015 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Her parents were Bertie Freeman Parker and John D. Parker, and she was raised in Little Horse Creek Baptist Church.  Back in those days, they had a circuit riding preacher that came  by once a month.

Dottie graduated as Salutatorian, Class of 1940, of Sylvania High School, and then headed to Savannah to live with her aunt.

She worked for many years at Hogan’s Department Store, as a "ladies ready to wear" buyer, going on trips to exciting places, like New York City.

In 1958, Miss Dottie married Nelson "Toby" Ketchum.  Tody worked for McKenna Supply and Plumbing and Heating, and he also had his own band, called the "Moon Misters".  They played for special events like weddings and other gatherings.  Toby was an avid musician, playing the piano, bass saxophone and the vibes.

Dottie and Toby owned and managed the "Islands Handcraft and Framing" on Wilmington Island for fourteen years.  During this time, her mother and Toby became wheelchair bound and Dottie got them up every morning and took them to work with her.  She has shown this same determination and fortitude in her twenty five years of service at Islands Assembly of God.  She was a Charter Member and was very loved by all.

She is survived by her son, Ronald J. Ketchum (Carrie L.), brother, William T. Parker, 2 grandsons, Timothy Ketchum and Joseph A. Ketchum; and a great grandson, Chance Paul Ketchum.

Miss Dottie will be taken to the Islands Assembly of God, to lie in state at  11 a.m. Thursday, until the hour of service at 1 p.m.

Rev. Larry Butler, and Rev. Buddy Cribb will officiate.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.
