ELVIRA C.A. SHUCK-BURNS (NEE GOGOLSKI)
Born June 29, 1932 in Blakely (Scranton) Pennsylvania to Bernard and Marian Gogolski, in the middle of the depression. The 9th of 12 children. Her mother tended to the home, garden and family, her father was a coal miner. She would fondly remember a childhood full of love, laughter, music, cultural traditions and a close-knit togetherness in spite of the times.
She enjoyed many careers in her lifetime. A secretary for a division of NSA, sales for Sears in sewing/notions, a secretary for the Operations Division of Bell South, and after retirement, a Crossing Guard for our local elementary school.
She led a full and rewarding life, her greatest joy being her family, she was always so proud. As an excellent seamstress, she patterned not only her own wedding dress but clothing for her mother and then for her children and grandchildren. This included special Holiday dresses and Halloween costumes. Some of her happiest times were providing delicious meals for her family, baking cookies for her grandchildren, celebrating the Holidays and crafting various items she would share with family and friends.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, 3 sisters, 6 brothers, her 1st husband (Lyle) and her 2nd husband (Herb).
She leaves to celebrate her memory, 3 children, 1 step-son, 8 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren, and her beloved cat, Rosey. Stormie-Lea Fitschen (Dennis Ferland), Dew-Ann Cunningham (Larry), Bruce Shuck (Rose), Phil Burns (Lauren).
There are also many “bonus” children and grandchildren.
She transitioned peacefully, guided by God’s Angels, surrounded by much love and prayer to her Heavenly Home on October 1, 2019 at The Place at Pooler, SNF and under the exceptional care of Hospice Savannah.
Our family would like to warmly thank and acknowledge the special staff at the nursing home for her wonderful care and treating her like family. We would also like to thank Hospice Savannah for providing compassionate end-of-life care.
Even though she loved all the different flowers of each season, we would like to ask that Remembrances in her name go to either Hospice Savannah or the charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Families First Funeral Care.
After her Celebration of Life, at 1:00 PM, our family would like to welcome all family and friends to join us for a repast at the home of:

Dear Family of Grandma Vi,
It saddens my heart to hear that she passed away. I’ve often thought of her and wondered how she was doing. Regardless as to how our “Family-Ship” ended, each of you have always been very special to me. Stormie, im on fb if you’d like to contact me. God bless each of you, and God bless Grandma Vi. What a beautiful person she was, both inside and out. With love, Kaye Shuman
