Emilio Mercado III, 68, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025. He was married to Chris Reichheld and they shared 18 wonderful years together. They
lived together in Savannah, GA since 2021 and prior to that resided in Brooklyn, NY.
Emilio was born in New York on November 13th 1956, the son of Emilio Mercado, Jr. (d. 2008) and Priscilla (Arroyo) Mercado (d. 2019). He graduated from Hofstra University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and built a professional career in information technology and financial services. He also founded his own company, EM3 Coaching, where he served as a career and life coach.
He was a lifelong athlete, enjoying racquetball, running (finishing many marathons and half-marathons), and most recently was an avid cyclist, biking 20-30 miles most mornings before work, and sometimes taking rides of more than 100 mile on the weekends with his riding buddies.
Emilio was also a mentor and sponsor to many who faced the challenges of alcohol addiction. His friendship, support, and mentorship was given with much love, a sense of humor, and a no-nonsense approach. He continued helping others even while facing his own health challenges.
He is survived by his husband Chris Reichheld, his sisters Theresa Mercado and Lisa Mercado (Lisa Spinosa), his aunt Rachel Filomeno, and numerous loving relatives and friends, many of whom he considered his adopted brothers.
Donations can be made in his honor to the American Stroke Association and a service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.

So sorry for your loss.
He was a wonderful person.
Funny, witty, bright, sincere – with a touch of sarcasm.

I used to work for and then became a friend of Emilio. In life you meet a few people who are always willing to help, mentor and lift up those around them. Emilio was one of those people. He gave of himself selflessly and always wanted what was best for others. Rest in peace, my brother.

I worked for and with Emilio for a number of years – we were collaborators, rivals, and finally friends. I miss a world with him in it.

I worked in the same field as Emilio, often crossing paths and being firm friends throughout, in no small part to Emilio’s warm and engaging personality. But being one of those work related friendships, I lost the connection when I retired, only discovering the news of his passing when reaching out to reconnect. Thank you for your gift of time, patience and friendship Emilio.
