I am heartbroken to hear that my lifelong friend, Frank O’Donnell, passed away. He and I shared many stories, many laughs, and some deep thoughts (occasionally) on a variety of subjects. He and I had a similar slant on humor (satire mostly) and a profound willingness to laugh at ourselves and our foibles. and this connection forged a relationship that couldn’t be diminished by time or distance. Frank was a highly intelligent person (far deeper thinker than I) and he always surprised me with his insight and ability to understand things on a higher plane, usually with a comedic outlook. We met in middle school (7th grade) and maintained a great friendship that could not be severed by his family’s relocation to Savannah from central Virginia. For a long while, we wrote letters to each other more or less on a regular basis, switched to mailing cassette tapes, then started calling each other on the phone once long distance calls became affordable. I NEVER had a single disagreement with my buddy Frank and I will miss him dearly as he was one of the few people I could be as outrageous with as I really am. And I’m sure he felt the same way. I pray that his soul is at peace, his pain is gone, and he is waiting for me to join him in Heaven. I pray that his family’s sorrow will quickly dissipate and will be replaced by thoughts of all the good times for which he will be remembered. May the Lord bless him and keep him and give him peace.
