Freddie Leon Thompson was born on January 27, 1941 in Warrenton, Virginia to the late Lloyd
Edward Thompson and the late Constance Burnette Smith Council. He completed his earthly
assignment and entered into eternal peace on February 15, 2025. Freddie L. Thompson “Ricky” married Beverly Ann Williams “Puddin” on November 25, 1965. Ricky and Puddin have five children.
In October of 1958 Freddie joined the best military branch in The United States of America, The
Marine Corps. Freddie loved God, Country, Corps, Semper Fidelis and loved being a part of this
wonderful brotherhood. He held positions as a Traffic Management Specialist, Drill Instructor for
twelve years, and Aviation Supply Clerk. He was Honorably discharged in July 1986 in Camp
Pendleton, California. During his tour in Okinawa, Japan he and Beverly made lifetime friends
with the Smiths, Washingtons, Pattons, and a host of others. In August of 1986, Freddie moved his family to Georgia where he and Beverly decided they would allow their family roots to be planted. He worked at St. Joseph Hospital for a few years, but it was his employment with Chatham County as Superintendent of Maintenance and
Operations that lasted until he retired in July of 2011.
Freddie enjoyed being a father figure and mentoring many young men through the challenges of
life. He loved tending bar, boxing, bowling and going fishing with his sons, grandsons, and
friends. His home was always open to those that needed a little help or just wanted to come and
sit on the “Back Porch”. Ricky and Puddin did not know any strangers. Freddie Thompson loved his family, he loved his Puddin and he loved God! He was a blessed man and left the gift of love to his children, family and many he claimed as family.
In the words of David Romano . . . ” So when tomorrow starts without me; Do not think we’re apart. For every time you think of me; Remember I’m right here in your heart.”
