Harry J. Anander

Posted By Kyle Nikola On December 7, 2020 @ 8:45 am In Obituaries | 4 Comments

The family, friends, and customers of Harry J. Anander have suffered an enormous loss with his death December 1, 2020.

Susan, his wife and soulmate for nearly 49 years, is enduring the most painful loss of all. They met in 1968, married in 1972, and together they shared the birth of their most precious daughter, Jennifer. The jewel in the crown came when Jennifer gave birth to Charlie, their grandson, making Harry so happy and proud. Harry was a very loving person and sensitive to the needs of those less fortunate including animals. He was often the voice of reason when others were facing difficulties in their lives.

Harry grew up working in all aspects of the optical business eventually securing his optician’s license enabling him to open Reeves Optical. It was through this work that he met many people who became lifelong friends. Harry’s adored older brother John joined Harry and Susan in operating Reeves Optical. While John was Harry’s only biological brother, there are others he loved as much as brothers. When Reggie Riggins married Harry’s sister-in-law, Karen, he knew he had another brother. Living next door for the past 15 years, Harry and Reggie became exceptionally close. Reggie and Karen brought their two grandsons to live with them and Harry and Susan had enough love to share; they became honorary grandparents to the boys.
Patrick McMahon married Harry’s other sister-in-law, Renee, where Pat soon became another brother. For Karen and Renee, Harry was a brother. He had come into their lives at such a young age that they couldn’t remember life without him. Then there was David Wise – Harry deeply loved this dearest friend. You can’t choose your relatives, but you can choose your best friend in life.

When Harry was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008, he remained a trooper through surgery and the many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation received. It was considered a miracle that he survived the first few months, much less 11 years. It was fortunate that Will Dent and his blind golden retriever, Hannah, were able to sit diligently by his side during his treatments.
John’s wife, Mary Helen, was like a sister to Harry. Her love for his brother John created a special place in Harry’s heart. There were so many people Harry loved and considered part of his family. This includes Chris Garrett, Lori Newsome, and Cathy Willis to name a few.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, William Anander, and his mother, Emma Rose Lucree Anander. He leaves behind his wife, Susan Richards Anander, a daughter, Jennifer Dent, and a grandson, Charlie Dent, along with several nieces and nephews.

Harry was a true gem in the optical business and his work was impeccable. It should come as no surprise that he exited this life in the year 20/20. His love and laughter will continue to resonate in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be planned for later next year. Please send remembrances to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Susan, we are in the midst of moving, and I haven’t had internet nor a newspaper for over a week. I just saw Harry’s obituary this morning. I want you to know that I am praying for your strength and peace. I have missed seeing you and Harry, sometimes, since we had to stop dance classes. I know how close you were, and my heart aches for you.
