Helen Evelyn Herrington Johnson was born on October 17th, 1939 in Savannah, Georgia to Evans Herrington (deceased) and Sarah Oliver Herrington (deceased). She fell asleep on October 18th, 2016 due to her short illness with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband John E. Johnson and her grandson Rasheed Johnson. She is survived by her son Malvin Johnson and her daughter Antoinette Bates; her sisters Julie Denson, Naomi Robinson and her husband Sonny Robinson, Dorothy Weaver, and Margaret Mack; her brother Jay Herrington and his wife Dolores Herrington. Evelyn also had four living grandkids: Kadeem Johnson, Devin Bates, Johnathan Bates and Gianna Bates. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Although Evelyn retired from the Federal Reserve Bank in New York and worked as a substitute teacher for Chatham County up until last year, her most rewarding and important labor was being a faithful servant and member of the Church of Christ. She was full of goodness and good deeds imitating her Lord and Savior.
Now we celebrate the life she led, the example that she leaves, and the influence she carried that gives glory to God.
Rest in Peace, Mommy.
