Henry Battiste was born to the late Vincent and Essie Battiste on September 13, 1951. A Savannah native, he was a 1969 graduate of Sophronia M.Tompkins High School and later furthered his education at Lincoln Technical College in Philidelphia. He was baptized at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church. Henry owned Master Builders Transmission Shop on Waters Avenue. He worked at Coastal Transmission for ten years.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Mack Battiste; two sons, Jermaine M. Smalls and Rodney V. Battiste, both of Atlanta Georgia; six grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Battiste (James), Julia Battiste Dunn (Charles), Nancy Battiste Washington (Joseph), Sharon Battiste Battise (Gerald); two brothers, Joseph Battiste of Atlanta, Georgia and Curtis Roberts of Sylvania, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
