Herbert Dale Williams, Sr. also known as “Herbie” and “Big Dale”, was born on July 30, 1949, in Savannah, Georgia. Herbert Dale Williams, Sr. passed away at the age of 74 years old on October 19, 2023, with his family by his side at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a long illness.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Hoover Williams and Beatrice Curl Williams, daughter April Williams Rockett, grandson Anthony Nolan Rockett, his son-in-law Charles Anthony “Tony” Rockett, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by Marie Iler White, of Savannah, Georgia; son Herbert Dale Williams, Jr. (“D.J.”) and his daughter-in-law Nicole of Yulee, Florida; his 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and Dale West Williams of Savannah, Georgia. His sister, Cindy and brother-in-law Carl Dowland of Jasper, Georgia and several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Herbert Dale Williams, Sr. served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam as an interpreter and in security. He also served in the Active National Guard (AGR) with the 1160th Trans Co. in Savannah, Georgia for many years. He was a member of the Chatham Artillery Organization.
He attended Armstrong State College where he majored in business. He worked in sales for years and he worked at The Landings and Memorial Health University Medical Center in security before he retired.
Dale loved fishing, shrimping, watching wrestling, and playing pool with his friends and brother-in-law Carl in his free time.
Mr. Herbert Dale Williams, Sr. will be laid to rest in Georgia National Veteran’s Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with a private burial. There will be no public service.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Georgia Chapter and at St. Jude Place of Memphis, Tennessee.
