John Mallinson of Savannah, GA, passed away quietly in his home on April 18th under the care of family and Hospice Savannah.

Jack, as most knew him, had just turned 69. He was born and raised in Cohoes, NY and was predeceased in death by his father Sonny (Jack) Mallinson and mother, Beatrice Crapo Mallinson. Having been in the airline industry for over 40 years, he worked at numerous airports, including Albany, Buffalo, Norfolk, West Palm Beach and most recently, Savannah International. He and his wife Patti came to this area over 25 years ago and happily called Wilmington Island ‘home’ since that last and final move.

Those who knew and loved him admired both his strength and courage in facing and fighting his cancer. He began that journey at a Stage 4 diagnosis, yet they were blessed to still have him sharing his warmth and humor for nearly three years afterwards. Such an inspiration!

He leaves behind his loving wife and their five sons: John Mallinson, Dan Leonard and wife Johanna, Kevin Mallinson and wife Laura, Cory Mallinson and wife Angie, and Sean White and his wife Hollie….plus nine very special grandchildren: Zach, Brandon, Chris, Patrick, Callie, Ashley, Haley, Rylie and Leah. He is also survived by his brother Ron and his wife Diane, along with nieces, nephews and loving cousins that were more like brothers and sisters. Last but not least we need to include Lulu, their sweet little terrier that faithfully stayed closely by his side throughout the length of his illness.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Taylor of Summit Cancer at the Lewis Pavilion and the caring staff that cared for and guided Jack (and even Patti) along each step of the way. And also Doctors Mullins and Pablo, of course. They would also like to remember the technicians in Candler’s Imaging Center, along with the staff on the pulmonary floor that took such wonderful care of him back in February. Finally, special thanks must go to everyone at Hospice Savannah for ‘being there’ and making it possible to end the journey in such a loving, positive manner at home.

If desired, remembrances/contributions may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416….or to Coastal Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 30462, Savannah, GA, 31410.

In honor of Jack….Go Miami Dolphins!
