James Everett Purvis, a beloved husband, and skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, in Savannah, GA. He was 80 years old.
Born on January 17, 1946, in Collins, Georgia, James was the devoted son of the late James Hilburn Purvis and Rosa Lee Durden. From a young age, he exhibited a strong work ethic and a passion for building, which would eventually lead him into the field of construction – a career he pursued with dedication and pride throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his son, Terry James .
James is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Cheryl Purvis, of Savannah, GA. Both shared many happy years of marriage, creating lasting memories and a life filled with love, joy, and laughter. His children, Craig (Jenny), Brad (Latrelle) and Misti (Michael), grandchildren, Cricket, Amber, TJ, Jaylin, Hannah, Morgan, Megan, Mason, Michael James, and Gabbi; great-grandchildren, Arrow Rose, Izzy Rain.
Renowned for his work in construction, James was not only known for his craftsmanship but also for the considerable kindness and respect he showed to everyone he worked with.
James will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his community, his infectious smile, and his strong spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was the guy that lit up the room, merrily by walking in the door. Always a smile. Always a greeting, and always glad to see you.
He’s could sing, like a canary! I was always in awe every time he picked up the microphone. I remember playing music, cutting up and having a good time on the front porch of my house. J had on a cowboy hat, a dark shirt and a microphone in his hand. Sitting on the edge of the porch, singing a George Jones song. Well ladies,, I’m here to tell you, “he was “quite fetching”, Cheryl, looking on, proud of her man.
J was the father to be proud of. A husband to be proud of. A grandfather, great-grandfather to be proud of,,,
J was a Christian, to be proud of.
To know J, was to love him.
