James Patrick Portune, Sr.

James Patrick “Jimmy” Portune, Sr., 77, passed away on March 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Savannah, Georgia.

Born on October 11, 1947, in Savannah, Jimmy spent his life deeply rooted in the community he loved. He dedicated much of his career to the life insurance industry, working diligently to provide security and peace of mind to countless families. His faith played an important spiritual role in his life, guiding him through the years with strength and devotion.

Above all else, Jimmy cherished his family. He was a steadfast presence for those who needed him most, always offering support and love. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and warmth.

Jimmy is survived by his twin brother, Robert Portune; his daughters Angela Clanton, her husband Mark Clanton, Rachael Depeyster, her husband Jeremy Depeyster, Amanda Christensen, her husband John Christensen, Amber Shepard and her husband Daniel Shepard; his grandchildren Zachary Martin, Anthony Depeyster, Abigail Barefield, Tori Depeyster, Carli Depeyster, Catelynn Walker, Genevieve Shepard, Ashlynn Depeyster, and Jace Depeyster; and his great–granddaughter Millie Martin. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Portune; his son, Patrick Portune; his brother, Charles Harrell; and his sisters, Barbara Lloyd and Lillian Gussman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The Landings–Robert’s House, located at 6 Hopscotch Lane in Savannah, Georgia.

Jimmy’s legacy of love and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to all who mourn his passing.
