James, affectionately known as “Smitty,” built a life marked by dedication and resilience. After many years of hard work, he retired from Shearhouse Lumber, where his commitment and steady presence left a lasting impression on colleagues and coworkers alike.
Family was a central part of James’s life. He is remembered with love by his children: Tammi (Mark) Silcox, Scotty (Desiree) Smith, Clinton Edwards, and Brian Edwards. James’s legacy continues through his grandchildren—Jobbie Williamson, Justin Williamson, Jayden Silcox, Elizabeth Silcox, Serinity Fuzie, Sy’ria Jenkins, Trinidy Jenkins, and Anthony Smith—and great-granddaughter Rose Williamson.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marsha Douberly and son Chris Smith.
May the memory of James Rodney “Smitty” Smith bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire strength and unity among his family.

I worked with Smitty for several years at Shearouse Lumber. He was a man of integrity and a very dedicated hard worker. To say that he was knowledgeable in the lumber business would be an understatement. He could build anything! All the customers respected Smitty and would often ask for his input with their lumber projects. He wore many hats at work. To name a few; he was over the treated lumber dept. and as needed, he would fill in as a truck driver and operate the treatment plant. The sky was the limit on his accomplishments and abilities.
Smitty was for sure a family man, he always had a big smile and laughter while updating me on what the grandkids had been up to, a proud Papa with much love for his children and grands.
My condolences to Tammi and the family. Smitty will definitely we missed for those who had the privilege to have known him.
