Jay Sparks, affectionally known as “Butch”, beloved father, brother and son was the first born son of Joan Lorraine Sparks on November 2, 1954 in The Bronx, NY. Butch was special from birth, he was born visually impaired.
Jay possessed an outspoken, humorous spirit that he would carry with him throughout his life. Although he was born visually impaired his family , encouraged his independence and self-sufficiency. Butch loved to laugh and crack jokes with his family and friends. He enjoyed family get-togethers where there was always food, music, dancing and lots of love. His favorite food was Popeye’s Chicken.
Butch was raised in South Bronx, NY and was educated In the NYC Public School system. Butch had a love for cooking and went on to attend Job Corps In upstate NY where he studied Culinary Arts. Determined to improve his life, Butch relocated to Savannah, GA to be reunited with his baby sister June in 1991.
Jay, a strong-willed and determined man departed from this earth on Monday, March 15, 2021. His beautiful spirit will forever be cherished in the lives of his two children Lowell Benson Sparks and Tarji Makeeba Sparks; he was preceded in death by his mother and is survived by his 2 siblings Gerald Richard Benton and June Waora Benton; while Butch leaves many nephews and nieces, his favorites were Michael Albert and grand-nephew Jamel Albert, Jr.. Butch will also be lovingly remembered by a host of cousins, friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Families First Funeral Care.
