It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, John Artie Fountain Sr., age 90, a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, veteran, friend, and lifelong resident of Savannah, Georgia.
He passed peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, surrounded by family and close friends in Savannah.
Born and raised in Savannah, John was a devout Catholic. He carried a deep love for the Blessed Mother and found comfort and strength in praying the rosary. His devotion extended into service: John lovingly hand-crafted rosaries for The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist in downtown Savannah, a ministry that brought him joy and connected him the community.
John proudly served his country for a short time as a United States Marine. After his service, he built a long and respected career as an insurance broker/agent and then as an independent mortgage broker.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Noah Adam Fountain Sr. and Ada Wilhemina Fountain; his sisters, Dorathea Ann Porter, Etta Louise Walsh, Essie Virginia Schreck, Martina Josephine Howe, Mary Bernadine Fountain; and his brother, Noah A. Fountain Jr.
John is survived by his children: Daughters: Donna Phitides (Jason) and Patrice Eveld (Mark), Son: John Fountain Jr.
He was blessed with seven grandchildren and six great‑grandchildren, each of whom brought him joy and pride.
John’s life was rich with simple pleasures—his witty personality, his love of cooking, and especially his passion of playing music entertaining everyone with his harmonica and piano talent, which lifted his spirit. His easygoing nature and warm presence made him a source of comfort and laughter to all who knew him.
He now joins his parents and siblings in eternal rest, reunited in the peace of God’s kingdom in Heaven.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2026 at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, 1600 Wheaton St., Savannah, GA 31404. The United States Marine Corps will be rendering military honors. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and prayer.
As we gather to honor his life, we give thanks for the time we were blessed to share with him and find comfort in the memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
