Karen Page Sobol, 72, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away suddenly after a short illness.
Karen was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, sister, community advocate, and a lifelong educator. Karen leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and beauty cultivated both in her community and her garden.
Karen was the widow of Walter Sobol and the loving mother of Elisabeth Stratford (William Ruff). She took immense pride in her role as “Mynee” to her cherished grandchildren, Vincent Comparetto and Quinn Ruff, who brought her endless joy and inspiration.
She was the cherished sister of George Page (Mary Lu Angelilli) and Henry Page III, with whom she shared deep family bonds and treasured memories. Henry, affectionately called Brother Bert by his siblings, was the inspiration for Karen’s tireless drive to advocate for children, particularly those with special needs.
A passionate teacher, Karen dedicated her life to education and ensuring that every child had the opportunity to thrive. She served as Board President at Friends of Massie, where her leadership and commitment helped to keep an important piece of Savannah history alive.
Karen was also a gifted musician, with a lifelong love of piano and voice. She studied music at Wittenberg University, and her joy in singing and playing the piano remained with her throughout her life, bringing warmth and harmony to those around her.
Beyond her professional work, Karen was a proud Master Gardener and an active member of the Savannah Garden Club and the Huntingdon Club. Her garden was a reflection of her soul—vibrant, nurturing, and full of life. Her love for animals was equally profound, and her pets were constant companions and sources of comfort.
Karen will be remembered for her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her legacy blooms in every life she touched, in every song she sang, and in every flower that graces her garden.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she served so selflessly.
A celebration of life will be planned for early summer, details will be provided to family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Massie would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Liz,
My heartfelt prayers are with all of your precious family. I am confident that you are aware of the profound love she had for each of you.
Karen was an extraordinary friend, and I am blessed and grateful to know her. She offered me unending support and comfort, when John, Katie and Sophie moved away. She and I shared so many important experiences in our lives.
A little later, we were surprised to learn that my granddaughter, Sophie, was a classmate and friend of her granddaughter, Quinn, in Mrs. Lincoln’s class. Sophie sends her love to Quinn. Until we meet again, My Sister in Christ. Love, Alexa.

Karen was my very supportive, upbeat, and loving friend. I have known her since high school days and then worked closely with her. She knew how to handle every situation and always gave me good advice. I remember wonderful dinner parties that she and Walter hosted in Toledo. Not only was the food amazing but the conversation was always stimulating. Living with those she loved the most in the last several years after Walter’s passing meant the world to her. She could experience the joy that Vinny and Quinn provided to her daily and the love and support that you could all give her. My heart aches for all of you and hope that your fond memories and the wisdom she provided help sustain you in the months and years ahead. I send my love.
