September 12, 1961 – September 10, 2023
Larry Jack Sammons was born in Savannah and lived in the city that he loved for all of his life. He was a registered nurse for several decades and most recently worked at Georgia Regional Hospital. Larry was well-known throughout the downtown community for his love of local music, regardless of band, venue, genre, or skill. He could light up the darkest room with his ever-present smile and contagious laughter. He was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Falcons, even when they played at their worst (which is often).
He will be remembered for many things: his legendary Super Bowl parties, his skill at befriending everyone he met, and his ability to stay out all night long catching as many bands as possible, but he will mostly be remembered for his love and zest for life. The world would be a better place if we all lived like Larry Jack, and we are all better for having known him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn and Teddy Jack Sammons, and his brother, Rick Sammons. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Sammons, grandson Riley Sanders, sisters Marsha Jividen and Jodi Graham, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, Ziggy.
Larry Jack’s Magical Farewell Tour is scheduled for October 1 at 5:00 p.m. at Starland Yard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you attend any concert in Larry Jack’s honor. Donations are welcome to be sent to the Savannah Music Festival.

A bright light has been extinguished.
I cherish the memories of a lifelong friendship of watching Falcons, Braves and Bulldogs games, attending numerous concerts especially his beloved Rolling Stones and our annual trips to Vegas. It was a given to take off the day after Super Bowl to rest up after the party. He greatly enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day and the wearing o’ the green! Larry was always fun to be around and hang out with. He was my go-to guy to grab a cold one after work.
Larry was legendary in his attendance of local music shows. If you were out with him you knew you were going to bounce to see as many bands in one night as you could! Such a large part of my life. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Much love to his daughter Lisa and sisters Marsha and Jodie .

So sorry to hear about Larry. We went to the same high school. He came to see my son’s band, and sent me pics of the concert. He was such a nice guy. He will be missed.

I wrote this the other day on behalf of my band.
Pink Peugeot would like to say a few words after the sudden passing of our dear friend @ljack912. His Instagram handle says it all. Larry Jack was Savannahs biggest force to be reckoned with. There was nobody kinder and more supportive to the Savannah, GA music scene than he was. Every band we have ever been in Larry Jack supported the last decade or so. He attended more shows than anyone in Savannah, GA. As a band and as members of this community, we are heartbroken. We loved Larry Jack like family, as did everyone who knew him. How could you not? Thanks Larry Jack for all you love, support and kindness through the years. We Love you. Please folks hold your friends and other loved ones close. This is a sad day in the 912.
RIP Larry Jack Sammons 😢
I would like to add a personal note. My heart goes out to everyone in his family, his friends and anyone else that was lucky enough to have known him. He will forever live on in the soul of our city. In every note we play. The music scene will never be the same. We all love you and will miss your infectious smile.

I honestly do not know where to begin. Larry was a one of a kind. Humble, caring and a rare find in a person. We started off as co-workers, but the more he would bring specimens to the lab and the more we talked and shared our weekend plans (his weekend plans always left me in awe and wondering how in the heck does he do it all lol) =the more we grew a bond and became friends. He truly enjoyed life, something I admire. His laugh would make me laugh, and that smile is something I can still see clearly! He told me about many places in Savannah that I did not know existed. He explained to me why he would tell people his name was Larry Jack and not just Larry, lol, Crafty man he was! My head is spinning, but I can still feel his presence and that will keep me smiling. I vow to go out and enjoy life more I will even try a live band event, and not put it off for “tomorrow”! Larry Jacks’ family and loved ones are in my prayers!! Larry’s kindness and zest for living was such a bright light! What a lovely soul and inspiration on how to live well. I got to know him working at Georgia Regional this past year and was so impressed with his empathy and gentle, good-humored approach to life. He will be dearly missed. We will be sure to attend a concert in his honor and donate to the Savannah Music Festival–what a fantastic tribute to the music Larry saw in us all.

I’ve known Larry since he started at GRHS.
He was always kind and compassionate. An AWESOME nurse. A man with a strong work ethic and high morals and values.
He was a joy to work with. A REAL team player…..and so sweet and soft spoken.
He had a great sense of humor.
Although I did not know him outside of work, to work with him was an honor and privilege.
My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all of his family, friends and work family.
I am so sorry for your loss. I already miss him.

Savannah has lost its biggest local music fan. Larry Jack was a mainstay at local performances every week, posting his “Magical Music Tour” schedule of multiple shows to see on social media. Whenever I saw him, I always told him I knew I was at the “cool place to be” if he was there! He always greeted me like everyone else with a big smile and laugh. Tuesday would have been his birthday. Many friends gathered to celebrate his life and listen to local musicians at McDonoughs. It will probably be the first of many celebrations of his life, remembrances and tributes to come for a while. RIP, Larry Jack. Your presence is already being missed by your many friends. We should all go see a live, local band…for Larry Jack.

My condolences for your loss. I am a hospice nurse and worked with Larry several years. He was an excellent nurse. I know he touched many lives. Not only did I have the opportunity to work with Larry he was also my dad’s hospice nurse. Larry was so kind and caring to my father and family. My dad never suffered and had a very peaceful death. Larry had a lot to do with that. Even though many years have passed and I didn’t keep in touch with Larry I have never forgotten Larry and I never will. May God comfort all at this time. Tricia

My prayers are with the family. Mr. Larry was cool as a fan. He brought life and spunk working on unit 2/6 at the Regional. It was a honor to have known you.

Echoing what everyone has said here. That smile! I worked with Larry at Hospice Savannah – he was a wonderful nurse – and of course saw him at every concert we attended. Condolences to his family.

Sending sincere condolences to the Sammons Family. Larry was such a great nurse and co-worker. Always positive and assisting. Ga Regional Hospital not only lost an employee, but we lost a family member and friend. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
