Larry Steven Oliver, age 70, passed away Monday, November 22,2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA.

Larry was born on June 15, 1951, to William and Elizabeth Oliver in Greensboro, NC.
Larry graduated from New Hanover High in 1969, then graduated from Cape Fear Community College in 1971 with a degree in Oceanography and Marine Science. After graduating he went to work with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

He is survived by his four children, Larry “Steven” Oliver II, Lesly Oliver (Garth), Kasey (Joseph) Kaminski, and Willam “Will” (Kelly) Oliver. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Cole Healy, Karolina Kaminski, Kyleigh Kaminski, Chandler Oliver, Kamberlyn Oliver, Steven “Lil Stevie” Trey Oliver, Brantley Oliver, and Rylan Oliver. Also, two brothers William “Bill” (GiGi) Oliver and Terry (Jan) Oliver. Larry was preceded in death by his parents William Oliver and Elizabeth Zimmerman and brothers Jerry Oliver and William Christman

Larry had a personality that was larger than life and always down for a good time. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for someone in need. He loved baseball and was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves. He was proud to be able to watch the Braves win the 2021 World Series after watching them last win the 1995 World Series. He enjoyed teasing people with his large vocabulary. Often doing the crossword puzzle out of the newspaper and challenging whomever near with what those large words meant and how to properly use them.Though most of the time being the smartest man in the room he was humble and down to earth. Always there to listen and give advice when needed. However, he was also stubborn and strong willed. Which is how even at the end, he fought harder than we could have ever known possible, never giving in or admitting defeat.

He is loved by so many. His memory will live on through his loved ones and not a day will go by that he isn’t missed! Fly high, until we meet again.

At Larry’s request, no services will be held. Condolences may be sent to 96 Eagle Glen Dr. Cartersville, GA 30121 or [email protected].

I know this man
Who is dear to my heart.
Suddenly one day
It was torn all apart

This man taught me everything
That I needed to know
But I never really listened
Until he had to go.

He gave me love
And touched my life.
It’s all over now:
He no longer has to fight.

He tried to teach me
Right from wrong.
The day he left
I wasn’t that strong.

He is gone now,
It is hard to believe.
This man is my dad
Whom I will never see.

But life on earth isn’t forever
The day will come
When it’s time for me to go.

So, I’ll hold him dear
And close to my heart.
‘Cause the day we meet again
I know we’ll never be torn apart.

I LOVE YOU DADDY ❤️

Condolence from Karolina Kaminski on November 25th, 2021 9:05 pm

I remember one night we talked on the phone for 2 hours just catching up and talking about life. To say the least, it was the most engaging conversation I have ever had. At the end of it, I told you that you could call me whenever you wanted and that I would always answer. Of course you never did because you’re too stubborn and thought you were bugging anyone you would call. But you never did. I wish I could have been there for you more. I know you will always be with us and in my heart forever. I love you Grandaddy.

A few years ago I bought this toy from McDonald’s and it was that purple alien from the movie “Home” I couldn’t think of his name so I told grandaddy that it was “yuck” so every time I visited him he would show me that he still slept with it. Whenever I would talk to him we would always say “yuck” and it was just our little inside joke but it meant so much to me and even more to me now. You will always be my “yuck” I love and miss you so much!!

Dad i will miss you lots. The first time we hung out was at G-ma’s house and y’all we’re having an Oyster roast. You showed me how to eat them. “Shuck ‘‘em open, put it on a cracker and don’t forget the hot sauce.” Me and you had a blast playing Ping Pong and Darts at our first house. While jamming out to all the classic rock jams. You made me so happy when I was showing you all the parts I was Machining at work. Thank You for showing an interest. I love you and can’t wait to see you in Again in Heaven. I’ll bring the Beers. Love you Dad
