Lois Jean Bowling died peacefully Wednesday January 13, 2016 in Savannah, Georgia at her son’s home under the extraordinary care of Hospice Savannah.
Lois was born in Wise County Virginia on March 11, 1942 to the late Carnie Rittenberry, and Mae Tackett Rittenberry. At a young age she was raised by her sister Naomi Olinger and V.L. Olinger (deceased) in Middletown, Ohio. She graduated from Middletown High School. She retired as a banking officer with Wachovia Bank. She was a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church. She served on the local and regional board for Women’s Aglow in Eastern North Carolina and volunteered with Festival of Trees for many years. Bowling and wife Robin of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Sisters Roma Arch, Naomi Olinger, and Greta Phipps Long. Brothers, Danny Rittenberry, Herman Rittenberry, Wayne Olinger and Donnie Olinger. She is also survived by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of extended family members. She is predeceased by seven siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, North Carolina at 2:00 PM, with a celebration reception to follow immediately.

A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others. May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead.
May the many fond memories of your loved one provide you with peace and serenity at this time of loss.

Affectionately known as Mama Bowling, she was spoken of highly but did her best to hold others in high regard as well. She made sure none of Scotts friends went hungry…i think it was state law. Her smile was a light in dark room. You have but one mom…but have many memories. The mud ball as best i can recall were consumed at an alarming rate and if you didnt go close to first you stood a chance of going with out. May Lois’s love for family and friends be carried on by the love we give to each other. May peace be with you. as you are in our hearts.
