Lynn Georgia (Larson) McCormick died peacefully, on August 10, 2024, in Savannah, GA after a long battle with chronic urinary tract infections and several strokes, in the care of Conor and Madeline McCormick. She celebrated her 80th birthday with friends in March.
Lynn was born March 8, 1944, the daughter of Herbert Otto Larson and Geogina Elvina ( Matthes) Larson, in The Bronx, New York. Lynn graduated from Concordia College in Bronxville, NY in 1969 and then proceeded to attend Concordia Teachers’ College in Seward, NE where she met James (Jim). She married James (Jim) Albert McCormick, Jr. on May 22, 1971, and was married for 38 years until his death. Jim served as a pastor and Army chaplain for most of that time. Lynn and Jim gave birth to two children Jared Andrew McCormick and Georgia Elizabeth McCormick. Georgia unfortunately died as an infant leaving this world too early.
Lynn spent many years as a grade school teacher, military spouse, and pastor’s wife. She lived in Nebraska, New York, Michigan, California, Illinois, Kansas, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, and Germany. She made many friends, and memories, and created long-lasting impacts on the various communities she lived in. She was baptized as a lifelong Lutheran, most recently attending The Ascension in Savannah. Lynn was an active member of every parish she attended, including, serving on the board, in different capacities, at the congregation at Zion Lutheran Church in Johnstown, PA before moving to Savannah.
She is survived by her brother Robert Larson, married to Kathy Best, son Jared Andrew McCormick married to Marie McCormick, grandson Conor Frazier McCormick married to Madeline McCormick, nephew Herbert Larson, niece/God-daughter Christia Keim, niece Beth Larson and brother and sister-in-law Larry and Ruth McCormick, who will never forget the love she brought into their lives. Lynn’s love was endless, and anyone who had the privilege of meeting her can attest to her heart.
The funeral will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Johnstown, PA on 9 September 2024 at 11:00 and burial will be followed at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Saint Louis, MO alongside her husband.
Any donations/flowers can be coordinated with Madeline and Conor McCormick, or be found with Westwood Floral in Johnstown, PA, any donation is greatly appreciated.

Conor and Madeline,
Your grandma and grandpa were very dear friends of mine in my time serving in Hooversville, PA. Lynn was the first to call me when I moved there and invited me to a barbecue at the parsonage with several other clergy friends they knew. We shared many a meal together, loving Red Lobster (especially on Good Friday). I had the honor of being with your family at your grandpa’s passing. I will never forget either of them, their kindness and generosity of spirit and hospitality. I’m so sorry I haven’t been as closely in contact with Lynn over the last years but I’m so glad we got to talk just a few months back. She was forever a big, burst of energy and her laugh will live on in my heart. I am so very sorry for your loss. Love to you, Lynn, as you now reunite with your beloved Jim and Georgia. I will miss you! Krista
