Margaret Rose Fish, a talented, independent woman with an open heart and a deep love for life, passed away peacefully on November 14 th , 2024 at the age of 90. Born in Switzerland on March 28, 1934, Margaret left home at a young age with dreams of traveling the world. Life, however, had a different path for her when she met Robert “Bob” Fish in New York. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and community. Bob passed away in 1990, but his memory remained with Margaret, and she continued to honor the life they shared.
Margaret leaves behind four children: Mark Fish; Kevin Fish and his wife, Sandy; Karen Wheet; and Sandra Solis and her husband Tony. She was the cherished grandmother of nine grandchildren and great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren, fondly known as Nana. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Rose Soom and Charles Frei, her sister, Vreni VonBuren and is survived by her sister Bethli Gloor and countless nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Margaret was known for her kindness, deep empathy, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Always routing for the underdog, regardless of their background or life circumstances. Her heart was open to all, and she welcomed people from all walks of life with warmth and acceptance. Margaret’s non-judgmental nature made everyone feel comfortable and valued, and her ability to see the best in people was one of the many qualities that endeared her to those who knew her.
While Margaret’s family was her greatest joy, she also found fulfillment in her many passions. She was an avid gardener, cultivating beautiful flowers and plants that filled her home with color and life. Her home itself was a reflection of her creativity and love for flowers and animals. In addition to gardening, Margaret enjoyed knitting, walking her dogs, and reading. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering at a local cat rescue, at a food pantry, and helped prepare tax returns for seniors where she shared her heart and her spirit with those in need. Margaret’s love for animals, her deep connection to nature, and her commitment to her community were matched only by her love for her family. She also treasured time spent with her good friends and neighbors, and was always there with a kind word, a helping hand, or a listening ear.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held after the holidays. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to Dog Orphans, Inc. “https://www.dogorphans.com/”
Margaret’s legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many people whose lives she touched with her open heart, generosity, and loving spirit. She will be deeply missed, but her warmth and kindness will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
