
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Melissa Laurel Green, age 45, who passed away on January 28, 2025, at her sister’s home in Savannah, GA after a courageous battle with cancer. Melissa was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Born on June 24, 1979, in Portsmouth, VA. Melissa was a graduate of Denbigh High School in Newport News, VA. She had the pleasure of living in England, Germany, California, and Virginia and touched the lives of everyone she encountered with her kindness and warmth. Melissa devoted her most recent years to being a caregiver for her parents. She spent her life taking care of others. Melissa’s strength and resilience in the face of her illness were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Melissa had a passion for crafting, reading, and all things Disney. Melissa was a creative, shy, sweet natured woman who loved children and animals, especially her dogs Ashley and Jaimie. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved, and her spirit will be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Melissa is survived by her parents Robert W Green, Jr. and Deborah R Green, both of Newport News, VA; her brother Wayne E Green of Ocala, FL; her sisters Tamara Mason of Savannah, GA and Johanna Nibarger of Mansfield, TX; her nieces and nephews Kayley Johansson, Zakkary Greene, Emily, Leon, Joshua, Jacob, Zackary and Juliette Nibarger, Meagan Lujan, Wayne Jr and Christopher Green; and great niece and nephew Jameson and Poppy Johansson.
A service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Newport News, VA to celebrate Melissa’s life and her enduring legacy. Melissa’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be deeply missed.
