Nancy Owens Fountain, 83, transitioned from this life on June 18, 2025, peacefully at home with her family.
She was born in Augusta, Georgia on December 15th, 1941. She taught Cosmetology for ten years at Savannah Technical College. She also managed a local Regis Salon for multiple years and won the Presidential award, which included an all-expense trip to Paris. After Regis, she continued to practice her craft at various salons. In her spare time, she enjoyed barrel racing, western pleasure, traveling abroad and in the United States, playing chess, going to basketball games, spending time with friends and family and of course spending time with all of her animals. After retiring, she enrolled at Armstrong, now Georgia Southern for pottery. She was very talented with sculpturing and pottery. She won first place, in the City of Savannah competition, for creating a bust (a sculpture of a person’s head, shoulders, and chest) of Luther. His bust was displayed at city hall for many months. Many tourists took pictures with his bust, thinking he was famous. She also won first place at an Armstrong competition for one of her sculptures of a horse. Although, she gave most of her artwork, she also sold several pieces. Her greatest achievement, however, was keeping Luther on the straight and narrow path.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rear Admiral Hinton Owens and Dorothy Owens, Lieutenant Julian Freeman Owens, Estell Norvell Owens, and her nephew Hinton Allen Owens III. She leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years, William Luther Fountain; two daughters, Julie Newton and Dorothy Sanders (Michelle); five grandchildren, Timothy Kirkland, Breannah Newton, Allison Newton (Michael), Jock Thomas Newton (Haley) and Damani Sanders, 12 great grandchildren; three siblings, Shirlee Owens, PHD, Hinton Owens II (Nancy), and Chris Owens (Lisa); two nephews, Carlton Owens and Michael Owens, one niece Katherine Owens, and one sister in-law/close friend Estelle Cason.
The family will be doing a celebration of life July 12nd at Nancy’s and Luther’s home.

Nancy was a good friend. She was kind, talented and beautiful inside and out. Her and Luther were friends of ours for a long time and even if we didn’t see each other weekly or monthly, I knew they were always there for . We Especially loved to go eat crab legs together. I will miss her. ❤️
