Mr. Nicholas Gregory Faraklas, 65, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022 at the Oaks of Savannah.
Nick was born in East Orange, NJ on April 6, 1956 and grew up in Toms River, NJ. After 2 years of community college, Nick completed his biology degree at the University of South Carolina. After college, he joined the United States Navy and spent 4 years as a Weapons Officer aboard the submarine, the USS Indianapolis.
This led him to his destination of choice, Hawaii. While stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, he enjoyed scuba diving and windsurfing. After his honorable discharge, he received his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
In July of 1990, Nick married his best friend and soulmate, Judy. He and Judy resided in Downingtown, PA for more than 20 years where they raised their cherished daughter, Angela. During his career in the pharmaceutical industry, Nick helped bring to market numerous life-saving drugs for hemophilia, breast cancer, and other cancers. After retiring, Nick and Judy built a new life in Savannah, Georgia.
While in Savannah, he was an active member of his community volunteering in many events. Nick was an avid pickleball and tennis player. He volunteered with the Humane Society in various facets which included fostering and finding forever homes for many cats. An avid world traveler, he celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary in the Galapagos Islands in February of 2020.
He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Geraldine Faraklas. He is survived by his wife, Judy Faraklas, his beloved daughter Angela Faraklas, his sisters: Virginia and Jim Farley of Skowhegan, ME, Cathy and Gary Young of Toana, VA, and Diana Demarest and Joe Babcock of Greene, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
Nick had many friends (human and feline) who will remember him as a kind, loving, and generous soul.
By his request, a memorial service will be held at the Jersey Shore where he spent his childhood summers and had an annual family vacation.
If so desired, please make a donation in his memory to the Humane Society, Savannah, GA.

[2] Print This Obituary & Condolences [2]Nick was a quiet, active guy who I wish had more time with Judy in this lovely place. We love cats but Nick was a true feline friend, always looking to place those he had fostered. He is gone too soon—reminding each of us that you need to live life to the fullest each day, since the future isn’t assured.
Judy, Wishing you peace and comfort during this very hard time. ❤️
Judy, my deepest condolences. Kay McCosh

Dear Judy,
I will remember Nick from all his volunteer work in this county for the underprivileged people and the abandoned 26 cats at Butterbean Beach which he fed (every day) and trapped for neutering and healing. Those are big shoes to fill but Nick showed us the way.

Judy,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Angela.
My heartfelt sympathy to Judy and family for such a great loss. Nick was a fine man with an incredible heart full of compassion and love for cats. He was a wonderful friend to the shelter pets at the Humane Society where I often saw him. Please be assured that Jesus ran to Nick and welcomed him to Heaven and he is now safe in the Savior’s arms. God bless you all.

Dear Judy and Angela,
I admit I just shed some tears at this news. Nick was energetic, humorous, and always had good ideas for SCAT. Best example I have is his idea of having SCAT volunteers do cat-sitting with the revenue going to SCAT.
My thoughts are with you.
Dear Judy and Angela,
We are so very sorry for your loss. We know what a wonderful man Nick was and know how much he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both and your family.

In very few lives do the mundane circumstances of just living conspire to produce a most remarkable person. We have had one among us. Rumi tells us not to turn our head, to keep looking at the real place, as that is where the light enters you. That is where life is. Nick had the special sense of the real place in life, the common moments of infinite value. He validated all of us and enriched the everyday spaces in our living, and to have patience with everything unresolved. When with him I never felt taxed or un-special. Quiet empathy was his way. He loved people and life as if they were sent to him for an upgrade. He was humorous and empowering. He could really be funny. He did not search for answers which could not be given now. He was calm, in the moment; in pickle ball, in his dedication to cats, in trivia, in his funny, funny ways, in his joy with family, and in his way of living with powerful softness – with everyone. His interpersonal genius was just being. He made all of us live more, to live our questions without the need for an answer. And, he was a Jersey Boy. Perhaps someday in the future, we all will gradually, without even noticing it, live our way into a better “us.” Part of this will have come from this remarkable human being. Rest Nick: We needed and grew from you in ways yet to unfold.

Judy,
Nick was considerate and
kind as anyone I have known.
I miss him greatly at tennis.
He always had the welfare of
others and his country in mind.
Nick was a joy to be with in our retirement pursuits of pickleball and tennis together. I’m so sorry he left us all too soon. I’ll miss and remember his happy personality.
Mr. Faraklas was my Weapons Officer on board the USS Indianapolis, very sorry to hear of his passing. I remember him well as a good man and an outstanding officer. My condolences to his family!
My wife and I were saddened to hear the news of your passing..
I have known Nick for over sixty years. We grew up next door to each other and he was like a second brother to me. Growing up, we spent every summer day with our families for many years, playing on the Jersey Shore beaches together. In high school, he drove me to school everyday.
College and careers separated us by distance, but our families remained close. We transferred the deed to our family vacation cottage to Nick so it could remain in the family for nearly 100 years now.
You will be missed as you join my brother and our parents in heaven. May you be at peace.
Dear Judy and Angela: We are so very sorry for your loss. Nike was a very special, caring, and generous guy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sending healing prayers and comforting thoughts. I’m so sorry for your loss.
