O.C. was born on May 22, 1925, in Sally, SC to a hard-working family of sharecroppers. He had to quit school in the 3rd grade to help on the family farm. In his adult life he was a tanker driver for A.P.C. Hauling for over 15 years. He later became a millwright for Georgia Pacific Plywood, where he worked until retirement.
He was a kind and loving husband and father to Grace Benson and five stepchildren. He also had one grandson, Russell Wise, and one great-grandson, Logan Wise, both of whom he thought the world of.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace, a stepson, Eddie Moore, his mother and father, Marie and Otis Benson Sr., four sisters, Maudene, Lavonie, Vernell, and Joyce, and three brothers, Royce, Edward, and Willard.
His biggest enjoyments in life where the mountains, fishing, gospel music, his truck, and hugging his nieces. He was a very kind and thoughtful man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service followed by interment will be held for Mr. Benson on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 01:00pm at Families First Funeral Care, 1328 Dean Forest Rd. Savannah, GA 31405, followed by interment.
