Paula Aleman, 89, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 29, 1935, in Havana, Cuba, Paula led a life marked by resilience, devotion, and joy.
In 1967, Paula and her husband, Rafael Aleman, courageously immigrated to the United States with their young daughter, seeking a better future for their family. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Paula and Rafael shared nearly 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2015. Their bond was a testament to love and mutual support, whether dancing together—Paula’s favorite pastime—or playing dominoes, Rafael’s passion, which she joined to spend time with him. They also enjoyed simple pleasures like “touring” on city buses and people-watching at the mall in South Florida, where they lived for most of their lives together.
After Rafael’s passing, Paula moved with her daughter, Ana Maria Aleman (Elise), to Savannah, Georgia, where they lived together until Paula’s advancing Alzheimer’s disease required specialized care in a nursing home.
Paula’s outgoing nature, charisma, and sense of humor endeared her to everyone she met. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time outdoors, reading, visiting the beach, and being with her family. Her laughter was contagious, and her knack for practical jokes brought smiles to many.
Even in the face of challenges, Paula remained a source of light and warmth. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Rafael, her son, Agustin Pelaez (who passed in 2016), and her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her daughter Ana Maria Aleman (Elise); her grandchildren, Anthony Aleman, Danay Pelaez, Carlos Pelaez, Gus Pelaez, and Alan Pelaez; and countless friends and extended family who were touched by her love and kindness.
Paula’s family takes comfort in knowing she is now free of pain and surrounded by peace and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Paula’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to an organization supporting Alzheimer’s research or caregivers.
Rest in peace, Paula. Your love, laughter, and light will never be forgotten.
