Rebecca “Becky” Ortiz, 65, of Port Wentworth, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Rebecca Jo Tanner was born March 4, 1957 to Daniel and Donna Tanner in Toccoa Falls Georgia. Her parents went to Bolivia as missionaries when she was two years old, along with a younger sister, Ruth. When she reached second grade, Becky and her sister Ruth attended Tambo Mission Boarding School. The Tanners served for 8 years as missionaries with a one-year furlough in between. While in Bolivia, two more sisters, Gloria and Miriam were born and another sister, Anita was born during their furlough to the states. Becky and her parents returned stateside in 1968 where her last sister, Donna, was born. She lived in St. Petersburg, Florida, the oldest of 6 sisters, where that summer at Vacation Bible School she gave her heart to the Lord. Later that year, the Tanners moved to Tampa, Florida where her father pastored a Spanish church. During Beckyโ€™s High School years, this beautiful girl caught the eye of a young man, Joseph Ortiz.

The Lord in His providence led Joe and his mother Delia to move from from New York city and became members of the church that her father pastored in Tampa FL. As teenagers Becky and Joe were both l involved with church youth events. 1975 they trained together in evangelism ministries with Campus Crusade for Christ. In the in the Spring of 1976, Becky and Joe attended a Taccoa Falls Bible College campus preview weekend. That Spring they fell in love and began dating. Becky moved to Toccoa in the fall and became a student at the college. Joe couldn’t stand being away from the only woman he ever loved. He moved to Toccoa and became a student with his purpose of one day asking for her hand on marriage. They married November 4th 1978 in Savannah GA. Since that time they have raised two children now married adults, Edward Joseph Ortiz married to Lindsey Hiatt Ortiz. They gave Becky and Joe two wonderful grandchildren Edward Ace Ortiz and Meadow LeAnn Ortiz. They also had Candace D. Ortiz married to Jonathan Bruce who gave them a beautiful grand daughter Eliora Katarina Ortiz.

For 44 years Becky was a faithful follower and servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that transformed her to the wonderful wife and ministry helper at every level of church ministry a Godley woman could minister in. From choir ministries at Bloomingdale Alliance and Meldrim Baptist churches , to street evangelism, to children and youth ministries, to hospital waiting room prayer outreach ministry and over seas ministries Becky was ready willing and able to serve the cause of Christ anytime anywhere. As a grandmother who was affectionately known as “Titi” her grandchildren loved her and they were the moat important people in her life. Teaching them about God, His son Jesus and the importance of knowing, trusting and living out God’s word. She went to be with her Lord and Savior as we prayed hand in hand. We who know the Lord will see her again, all because of the wonderful all sufficient love and grace of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. To God be the glory.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Bloomingdale Alliance Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.

Arrangements are entrusted to Families First Funeral Care of Savannah, GA.
