Royce Neil Bush, Jr.
November 20, 1960 – May 26, 2024
On Sunday, May 26, 2024 in Savannah, Georgia, Royce Neil Bush, Jr., age 63, was looked upon by our Lord Jesus and was told, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” – Matthew 25:21 He is forever singing Hallelujah.
How do you sum up someone’s life in just a few paragraphs? Especially someone like Neil who has left a profound mark on this world. Neil graduated from Unadilla High School and attended Berry College in Rome, GA on a music scholarship. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed going to the beach, riding roller coasters and gardening. He was an avid Georgia Southern Eagles Football fan. His smile and laugh lit up a room.
In 1987 Neil had a life-changing experience with God and was transformed into living a life of grace, power and undeniable passion for Jesus! Every person that knew him from his previous life was a witness to the transformative power of the Holy Ghost in him. He lived a servant’s life and modeled a servant’s heart. He consistently loved people through both his words and his actions. He made meals for people, opened his house to others, and dropped everything to attend to those who were sick or in need. He laughed and cried with others, supported them and prayed for us all at one point or another. If you ever went out with him, you would experience his unashamed love for Jesus and the joy of the Lord he had because he would share it everywhere without hesitation!
Neil founded Open Door Ministries, Inc. in 1995 and then Joel’s Place in 1997. In 2004 he accepted the Lord’s further instruction to start a church and to pastor. He has bridged the gap between so many people in his time of ministry. He was an example of a man driven by his faith in God. He would always challenge those around him to be all that God had called them to be and to outrun his hunger for the Lord.
Neil devoted the last 37 years of his life to discipling others around the world. He was known for his musical talents with vocals, piano, guitar, trumpet and songwriting. He was also known for his leadership aptitude, incredible preaching, teaching and extravagant giving.
Neil had many titles – Pastor, son, dad, Lolo, friend and others. He has touched the hearts and lives of so many all over the world and his legacy will live on forever through all of us. He will always be loved. We are thankful for the time we had with him. May we all remember “To live is Christ and to die is gain.” – Philippians 1:21
Neil was preceded in death by his father, Royce Neil Bush, Sr.; his brother, Steve Bush; his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Langford and Mr. & Mrs. Luther Bush; and his uncles, Covie Langford, Joseph H. Pye, Jr., and Ronald Bush.
Neil is survived by his mother and step-father, Margie and Tommy Albritton; his son and daughter-in-law, Jayson and Alison Manalang; his grandchildren, Jaylison, Addyson and Madyson Manalang; his beloved pet, Nikita Bush; his brothers, Mike Hamsley, Jeff McVeigh and Chris McVeigh; his sisters, Cindy and Sharon Hamsley, and Shari Dean; his nephew, Dusty Hamsley; his nieces, Olivia, Abbi, Alexis, and Kendra Hamsley; his aunts, Sandra Pye-Geer (Robert), Felicia Harrell (Clay), Elain Langford, and Kay Wilbanks (Larry); and several cousins.
