Ruth G. Mitchell, age 92, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019, at the Place at Pooler.

Born on November 05, 1926 to William and Louise Gray in Augusta, Georgia. They lived in Augusta for a while but later moved to Savannah, Georgia to live with their father’s sister Lizzie Bradwell. While living with their aunt they learned how to love and depend on each other. While there, they also learned very positive values and work ethics which would become a part of them for the rest of their lives.

Ruth attended the local schools here in Savannah. Later, on she met and married John Mitchell who preceded her in death. She eventually moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she raised three sons, John, Louis (who preceded her in death), Donald and later Kim Anita (who preceded her in death). Ruth was always a devoted mother to her children.
While living in Alexandria, Virginia, she was a Registered Nurse at Fort Belvoir, Virginia for over 30 or more years. Many years later Ruth moved with her family, back to Savannah to be close to family.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memories two sons, John Gray and Donald Mitchell, a brother, Donald Gray, a sister Juanita Lemon, a loving niece, Barbara Baker and granddaughter Tawanna who was with her when she took her final breath. A host of grands, great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mitchell will be held, Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 12 noon at New Jerusalem Church, 811 Wolf Street, Savannah, GA. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East.
