Shawn Ty Cleveland was born August 4, 1969 in Savannah, Georgia to Eloise and Nathaniel Cleveland. Shawn sadly passed on August 28, 2024 at the age of 55. Shawn lived an excitedly fulfilling life. He was a strong and giving man that never met a stranger. Shawn always looked out for his friends, supporting their dreams whether it be a becoming a musician or small business owner. He was there.
Shawn is survived by his mother Eloise; son Derrick Cleveland; two daughters Tyshawna and Shawnese Cleveland. Shawn leaves behind his sisters and brother; Bernard Cleveland, Michelle Griffin, and Jacqueline McKay. Shawn is also leaving behind one grandson Nolan Cleveland. Shawn was blessed to have many nieces and nephews.
Shawn attended Savannah High School and eventually graduated from Windsor Forest High School Class of 1987. Shawn’s children followed in his footsteps. Derrick graduating from Savannah High School and Tyshawna from Windsor Forest High School.
Shawn attended Agape Church of Jesus Christ for over two decade, where he obtained the title of Deacon. His impact and hundreds of hours he poured into the church are still felt to this day. There was no task too small or too big for Shawn when it came to the ministry. He drove the church van, took the ministry digital and online, all while being a shining example for young men at the church. Members can recall many stories of Shawn helping them out or just being a great listening ear.
Shawn always wanted to be own boss. He made his own dream come true at the young age of thirty. Opening his first company Southern Tri Co. At the core his of dream was to provide his family with a life he felt they deserved. Southern Tri Co. did just that through his determination and support from friends.
One identity that was always stuck with Shawn was his love for sports and especially the Dallas Cowboys. If the Cowboys were playing you knew Shawn was watching. Whether it be in front of a television or watching live from the stands, Shawn didn’t miss a game. His love for sports didn’t start with football. Shawn was a young baseball star and loved the game. Shawn coached little league baseball and that gave him the opportunity to teach his daughter, Tyshawna the game he loved. Along with baseball Shawn also coached football. His two most beloved sports. Shawn’s love for coaching went beyond just loving the game. He enjoyed mentoring and going the extra mile for his athletes to show they were loved and cared for not just as children, but as humans.
Remember Shawn not in his death, but in all the life, laughter, and love he brought into every room he entered. May his memory leave you with warmth and love.
