Stanley Estes Tinker, 63, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Hospice Savannah surrounded by family after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, for several years. He was predeceased by his parents, Lee and Lucille Tinker.

Known to all as Stan, he was born in Columbus, Georgia on November 5, 1957. He grew up and attended local schools in Savannah, graduating from Windsor Forest High School in 1975. He attended the School for Respiratory Therapy at Memorial Medical Center, and was employed there from 1978 to 1993. In 1994, Stan graduated from the Respiratory Therapy Program at Armstrong State College in Savannah, with an Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy. He then worked in the Critical Care Units and the Bronchoscopy Suite at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital until his retirement in 2018.

Stan was a hardworking and devoted employee, revered and beloved by family and friends. He earned the nickname “Stan the Man” as a result of his work ethic and determination to successfully carry out any task. He developed and maintained many friendships over the years, including those from his childhood and the workplace.

As a child, Stan enjoyed playing outdoor sports with his sisters and friends. He played men’s league softball in Savannah well into the sixth decade of his life. He was an exceptionally skilled hitter, blessed with speed and agility to run the bases and make diving catches. He was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and Georgia Bulldogs, and attended many games throughout his lifetime.

Stan enjoyed building furniture and “tinkering” with cars – skills that he acquired from his father. He loved music and attended many concerts throughout his life with family and friends.

Survivors include children Lee, Robert, Rachel, and Carter; his partner, Janna Fosse; sisters Leigh Tinker, Lynn Ansley (Bobby), Terrie Brown, and Susan Patrick (Hugh); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stan will be greatly missed and remembered as a beloved father, son, brother, and friend. He will forever be in our hearts.

Arrangements for a memorial service are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Stan Tinker. I knew Lynn and Leigh from school many years ago from Bartlett and Windsor Forest, and knew they had a younger brother. I understand the sadness from losing a brother, and pray you find comfort in cherished memories of happy times together.
God’s blessings to all of you!

I met Stan in 1979. In all that time I never heard him utter a bad word about anyone and he always had a great smile. He worked hard for his family and always talked about his children. We were so lucky to work with such a wonderful man! Proud to have been his friend!

My first symptoms of ALS occurred in 2014, but was diagnosed in 2016. I had severe symptoms ranging from shortness of breath, balance problems, couldn’t walk without a walker or a power chair, i had difficulty swallowing and fatigue. I was given medications which helped but only for a short burst of time, then I decided to try alternative measures and began on ALS Formula treatment from Tree of Life Health clinic. It has made a tremendous difference for me (Visit w w w. treeoflifeherbalclinic .com ). I had improved walking balance, increased appetite, muscle strength, improved eyesight and others. ]

My condolences to the Tinker family. “Stan the Man” is what we called him at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital. I knew Stan for many, many years and he was always a very kind person. When he came for his annual visit to Occupational Health, he always had a pleasant smile and was very polite. Janna, stay strong. To God be the Glory.
