Walter ‘Alan’ Mock – October 25, 1961 – November 21, 2014

Alan Mock, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 after a long and valiant battle against Brain Cancer. He influenced all those who came into contact with him, and there are no words to describe how much he will be missed.

Alan benefited from a long career as an electrician and spent many years working at Carolina Electric Cooperative and Georgia Pacific. Alan was also Past Master of the Clyo Lodge #280, F&AM.  He had a big, big heart and was always willing to help his friends and family with their projects and snags.

He loved his mom Audrey and dad Charlie Mock (deceased).  He was raised as the youngest son of four children. He is survived by his sister, Jeanette (Richard Jones), brother Joe (Debby) and brother Bob and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a dear friend who he thought of as a brother, Stevie Bashlor (Pam). Alan was most proud of his two children, son Justin and daughter Cheyanne (Allen Jackson).  He taught them to hunt and fish, to shoot straight, to love nature, to buy quality tools and to just be thankful. He took great pride in helping his children raise and show livestock and he enjoyed volunteering with the local
FFA and Fair Committee.

Alan had a life-long love affair with horses, enjoyed a perfectly grilled steak, drank Coke from a favorite cup, loved a good duck hunt, preferred American made tools, enjoyed breakfast at Simply Southern, and favored catching catfish with a bow and arrow. He despised phonies, arriving late for anything, chocolate (but would eat it on occasion as not to hurt anyone’s feelings), know-it-alls, anyone who put on airs, and wasted time (especially in a doctor’s office lobby).

The women in his life were numerous. As a self appointed ladies’ man he particularly fancied pretty, smart women. He was never bashful and enjoyed playful banter everywhere he went. He will be truly missed by the ladies who were his dear friends and who enjoyed bossing him around (not that he did what he was told).

Alan took no fashion cues from society. His signature everyday look was all his: a plain Columbia fishing shirt, his Wrangler jeans, a multicolored woven belt and a pair of old work boots and a cap. Rarely did he deviate from this look except to go hunting, at which time he mixed in some camo. His neat look was his signature and trademark.

Any attempt to convey how much he was loved and how deeply heartbroken we all are is simply not possible. It is also impossible to personally thank the many people who have offered him support and care during his illness. Alan will never be forgotten and his legacy will forever live on.

Visitation: Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 3 to 5 PM at the Springfield United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 5 PM, Sunday, following Visitation.

Pallbearers: Clay Helmly, Josh Collins, Alan Heidt, Cathy Heidt, Robert Boyette, Michael Zoller, Bryan Bashlor, Ty Bashlor, Zach Helmly and Glynn-Patten Helmly.
