It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wilson Johnson, a man whose strength, wisdom, and larger-than-life personality left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud truck driver, Wilson spent countless miles on the open road, providing for those he loved while embracing the freedom and purpose his work gave him. Driving was more than a career—it was a reflection of his determination, resilience, and unwavering work ethic.
Known as a man of many talents, there seemed to be nothing Wilson couldn’t do. Whether he was fixing something broken, building with his hands, solving a problem, or sharing advice, he approached every challenge with confidence and skill. Friends and family often turned to him not only because he knew the answer, but because he genuinely enjoyed teaching others. He believed that knowledge was meant to be shared, and he took great pride in helping people learn, grow, and succeed.
His greatest gift was his personality. Strong-willed yet kind-hearted, outspoken yet compassionate, he had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, think, and feel welcome. His stories, wisdom, and sense of humor could light up any room, and conversations with him were lessons wrapped in laughter.
Above all, Wilson loved his family and friends deeply. He led by example, teaching the value of hard work, integrity, perseverance, and treating others with respect. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the memories that will forever be cherished.
Though he has completed his final journey, his spirit will continue to guide those who loved him. His road may have ended here, but the impact of his life will travel for generations to come.
Wilson is preceded in death by his loving father, Pinckney Johnson, his cherished mother, Lou Bertha; one sister, Constance Brooks; and three brothers, Nathaniel Johnson, Earl Johnson, and John Wesley Johnson.
He is survived by his children Wilson Smokes, Bryan Johnson (Maria), Luther Smoaks, Dannette Sanders, Felicia Johnson; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his soulmate, Marie Lazaridis; two sisters, Roberta Sabb, Patricia Jenkins ; three brothers, Kenneth Johnson, Leon Johnson, Pickney Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends that will never be forgotten.
Family will be accepting friends 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Families First Funeral Care & Cremation Center, 1328 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Georgia 31405.
