Don “Bones” Hutcheson

Don Hutcheson, 81, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 after a long illness following kidney surgery.  He was bedridden since June 8th, 2022 and suffered through many treatments in the effort to cure the infections.

Don was born December 22, 1942 in Soperton, Georgia and lived in Savannah and Effingham County most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother Deen Coleman Hutcheson Sellers and father Neb Hutcheson and stepfather Louie Sellers.

His precious “Tinker” who was more than just a dog.  Their love for each other was unending and her memory was forever in his heart.   He longed for her until the day he died.

Survivors include his wife Annette Cook Hutcheson of 22 years, children Donnie Hutcheson (Beth), Eric Hutcheson (Wendy) and Brian Hutcheson (Valere), three stepchildren:  Stephen Allen, Bobby Allen, and Elizabeth Allen.  Grandchildren:   Zachary Hutcheson, Trenton Hutcheson, Jonathan Hutcheson, Tyler Hutcheson,  Calese Hutcheson, Tiffany Garzillo, Daniel, Makayla Hutcheson, Harlee Hutcheson, Abigail Hutcheson, Kaleb Hutcheson, Jacob Lambert, Juliette Hutcheson, Kathleen Saturday, several great grandchildren.   Nephew, Phil Sellers and niece, Jennifer Sellers, a brother, Philip L. Sellers, Jr., (Nadine) and sister Patsy Sellers Williams (Jim).

Don had the best friends a person could ask for.  They brought much happiness to his life just sitting around the fire with him and listening to music.  He loved all his Harley riding buddies.

Special friend and caregiver Sue Fortner Handy tirelessly provided the best tender loving care that anyone could ever hope to receive as they are leaving this life.

Don served in the Georgia Army National Guard.  He worked since he was 14 years old at various jobs:  bag boy at L&A grocery store in Port Wentworth was his first job, usher at the Lucas Theater, he delivered parts on his Cushman Eagle motorcycle, later in life he worked at WTOC TV, Gulfstream and Walmart.

He owned several classic cars: late 50’s Nash Metropolitan, ’62 Bonneville convertible, two 1966 Chevelle SS, 1966 Ford Fairlane convertible 390 hp 4 speed and several beautiful trucks.  He owned several Harley Davidson motorcycles and a HD chopper.  He had a good artistic eye for embellishing his rides and was recognized whenever people saw him on the roads.

Don had a beautiful singing voice, though few people ever knew it.  He often imitated his favorite singer, Elvis.   He sang in the church choir growing up.  Before he passed he accepted the Lord as his Savior.

He had a great sense of humor.  He entertained kids in the family with his Donald Duck voice and crazy jabber and imitations.  He never wanted to grow up and was always fun loving and ready for a good time.

A memorial service will be held at Bloomingdale Alliance Church, 501 W US Hwy 80, Bloomingdale, GA  31302 on Thursday, January 18th at 3:00 p.m.
