Posted By Families Firstcare On April 11, 2023 @ 9:49 am In Obituaries | 8 Comments

Don Hubbard Thompson Sr fell asleep in death April 5, 2023, at the newfound age of 71. He was born on April 5, 1952, in Savannah, GA. Don lived a long and fulfilling life, graduating from Beach High School in 1971. He later attended Alabama A&M University on a Basketball scholarship.

He dedicated his life to Jehovah in baptism in 1988, introducing him to an extended spiritual family. Don loved expending himself in the public preaching work. He spent most of his time with his loving wife and loyal friends sharing his passion for talking about Jehovah with anyone who would listen.

He was known for his wit, humor, and industrious attitude. He loved to stay busy, always involved in DIY projects. His inherited green thumb showed in his love for farming. He planted a garden each year and shared his produce with friends and family.

He was known for his barbecue ribs and took every opportunity to demonstrate why his barbecue was known everywhere. He took pride in knowing there were few problems he could not solve on his own with a little hard work.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Joseph and Mattie Thompson, his sisters Betty Jean Hafler and Juanita Green, his brothers Joseph Thompson and Melvin Thompson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Thompson, his children, Victoria Anglin (Chris), Tanya Valera, Catrina Thompson, Don Thompson Jr. (Terriny) and Miranda Cansler (Rasheed), his sisters Connie Baker (Larry), Sharon Graybill (Herman) and brothers Tony Thompson and Greg Thompson.

He had the privilege of being a grandfather to a host of grandchildren that got to know him: Christen, Tre,’ Ayana, Myah, Brooklyn, Savannah, Jerry, Harmony, Antonio, Jayla, Rylee, Makayla, Nyla, one greatgrandchild Jeremiah, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Surviving, lastly, is his hard-working attitude and charisma that he passed down to his children, and the appreciation they have for him bringing them together.

The memorial service for Mr. Don H. Thompson Sr. will be held at The kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 630 East Henry Street on April 15, 2023 at 1PM.

Condolence from John Jackson on April 12th, 2023 6:14 am

I was saddened to hear of Don’s passing. I wish to express my sympathies to the Thompson family. Growing up in Tatemville and also being in he ’71 class of Beach High, I grew up with Don. He was my buddy. We went separate ways after high school, but I still have fond memories of him. The best is of his prowess on the basketball court. I can remember wanting to take part in a pickup basketball game on the “Park”. Don was usually picking for his side because of his status as a very strong player. I was always the last one to be picked because I was a very weak player. However, Don would pick me because he was my buddy. I will never forget that.
