Funeral Services for Dr. Harry J. Cowart of Garden City will be held Friday, June 24th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Families First Funeral Care Chapel on Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Georgia. Travis Cowart will officiate.

Harry was born June 6, 1937 to the late C.P. Cowart and Geraldine Cowart of Hahira, Georgia. He lived in South Georgia all his childhood and graduated High School from Mitchell County. He attended Georgia Southern University where he earned his degree in education. Dr Cowart then went to the University of Georgia where he received a Doctorate in 1970. He retired from the Chatham County Board of Education where he was Director of Special Education. Dr Cowart was also a professor at Armstrong University and Savannah Technical College.

Preceded in death by his parents and a brother Sampson Cowart, he is survived by his wife Gloria Cowart of Garden City; two children, Cynthia Maloy (Shannon) of Coolidge and Christopher Cowart of Atlanta; two stepsons, Barry Brown of Pooler and Richie Brown of Garden City; grandchildren, Phalyn Murphy of Coolidge and Brian Anglin (Kim) of Hawaii, Ansley, Caroline and Caleb Brown of Pooler; great-grandchildren Corbitt Anglin, Reagen Anglin, Briana Anglin, Kyleigh Murphy and Zoie Anglin.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the University of Georgia Alumni Association.
