Posted By Kyle Nikola On June 11, 2022 @ 9:23 am In Obituaries | 1 Comment

Melvin William Brown, age 72, of Savannah Georgia passed away on May 17, 2022, after a long illness. Melvin was the son of the late Eloise Hamilton Brown and Benjamin Brown. He attended Beach High School where he participated in drama classes and was a good actor. He also participated in various sporting events including track and field where he excelled in long distance running. After graduating Melvin went on to Savannah State College before joining the United States Navy.

Melvin was stationed at the Navy Base in Newport, Rhode Island and following his discharge he settled in Providence, Rhode Island. Melvin worked for Gorham Jewelry for several years before following his passion for driving to become a long-distance truck driver for over 30 years for JB Hunt and other companies. During those years he was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating his own tractor trailer.

Melvin was an avid family man; he loved his family, especially his younger siblings. He was a pioneer for them and paved the way for Paul, Alima, Ayisha and Alberta to join him in Rhode Island and make it their home – some for a while and others long term. Melvin was beloved by his friends and colleagues in Providence. He was well known for his sense of humor, his adventurous and outgoing nature, and his love for the people around him.

Melvin leaves behind to celebrate his life, his brothers Chester and Paul; his sisters Alima, Alberta, and Ayisha; his son Charm Howie; grandchildren (Shirley, Samson, Sahira and Ralphina), nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Gone ahead of him are his son, Melvin W. Brown Jr, and his wife Thelma.
Gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace!

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, beginning at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Families First Funeral Care. Interment: 1:00 P.M. in Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, South Carolina.
